95 turbo miata still running hot.

I apologize if this is the wrong section. 95 turbo miata mishimoto radiator and fans, coolant reroute, 180 degree t stat.

After turbocharging my miata with stock radiator, fans, and t stat, I noticed that on the highway the car would run fairly warm. the car would get up to halfway between normal and hot. I would pull over, wait for it to cool down and limp it home. After being tired of not being able to go on the highway, I bought the 3 core mishimoto radiator and fans, along with a coolant reroute from fm. That's when all these problems started occurring. I installed both as the directions said, bled the system and added an aftermarket temp sensor. Before I could even drive the car I noticed the temp was up at about 210 degrees on the aftermarket temp gauge so I looked under the hood and noticed ed the fans weren't coming on. I cut the car off, looked over all the wires and none were wrong. I let the car cool down, started it up and decided to take it to the gas station. It was a long staight road that I didn't think the car would need fans on. I noticed the temp would slowly climb and never go back down. I cut the car off at 240 degrees. My concern/questions are why is the car still wanting to run warm while moving? It shouldn't need fans while moving. Also, why are my fans not coming on. I know my stock ones turned on but I tested my new ones by adding power and they do work but they wont come on when the car needs them. Has anyone else had anything like this? Please help it's been to long since I have driven this car.

Put your undertray back on

But why would it just now start to not want to cool down? I never had the tray on before I upgraded the radiator, fans and reroute. It was only after all those that it started messing up.

Fm reroute? Is that the m-tuned reroute? Is there a small bypass hole drilled in the stat so it sees the warm water from the block when closed?

You don't have an undertray!?! They're $60 brand new! Think of the money you could have saved!

Yes its the m tuned kit and yes it has the small hole in the top. I made sure that the hole is at the 12 o'clock position.

I needed to upgrade my radiator and fans anyways so I fugured I'd do the reroute while I was there.

What are your fan temperature settings in Megasquirt?

If you are not running a Megasquirt then did you reinstall the stock temp switch that cycles the fans?

I am running a megasquirt pnp2 and also the old fans were fine with megasquirt. But can you explain to me how to change the fan settings*

Or, if you can't find the Fan Control there, look under the Boost/Advanced button... for Programmable On/Off Outputs...

Then drill down to Output 1... and enter your desired settings there.

In this example my fan kicks on at 190 degrees... turns off 3 degrees cooler (187) when the throttle is under 99%.

I know you're all excited about the fans, but it sure sounds like your t'stat isn't opening. Is your upper radiator hose hot?

boostin on em 11-28-2014 08:51 AM

I tested the thermostat in boiling water and it worked but yes it does. Not like unbearably hot to the touch but pretty warm.

Once you fix your fans, put your undertray on so the car doesn't overheat on the highway.
