Default Is a 98 Miata worth anything extra

Hey everyone
I found a 1998 miata with 64,000 miles and hardtop for sale locally. When the guy said it was a 98 I looked at him funny, because I didn't think they actually existed. I looked at the VIN sticker and sure enough, built in 1/98.

Just wondering if because it's a 98 if it's really worth anymore.

I believe it is still considered a 97 model even though it was made in 98.

Here is a pic of the body. Clearly not a 97 body style. VIN code states NB

Then it is probably actually labeled as a 99. I would call up Mazda and give them your vin number and ask them what exact model year and options you have to know for sure. If you someone how a "98" model and Mazda confirms it I bet m.net would love you and people on there would offers millions of dollars for it.

I believe they started the '99s early that year because there was no '98. It's a '99 miata if it's a US spec car.

Also, hello from Maine.

Nice to see another "Mainah" on the site. Do you know of any meetings or events locally.

There are quite a lot of 98 models here in Europe. My Nb is made 03/1998.

My car is a '99, but I think my door tags says 7/98.

you know you can drink milk past the date on the carton? it's a sell by date, not an expiration date.

I don't know of any miata things, but I don't fit in with a lot of the regular miata crowd. I do hang out with the local autocross club, cumberland motor club, and there are quite a few miatas there that I fit in with a bit better.

Yeah, my 99 is either 3/98 or 4/98 production.

Buy it cheap, then sell to some clubroadster retard as the "RARE UNICORN '98 MAD TYTE JDM EDITION" for 3x the price.

Profit.

Too funny..... Wish i could. My luck i'd be stuck with it. The guy who owns it wants an automatic Miata. Told me that If i can find him an auto with about the same mileage he'd trade me. If I got it, I'd take the hardtop and sell the car...

Mine was produced 2/98, the 7477th one off the line. The last 5 digits of the vin will tell you order made. Yours for sure is one of the 5's that may exhibit crank walk issues, be careful to check it.

Yeah, there's not necessarily a correlation between year produced and model year. You know how near the end of the year you'll see people driving around in cars sold as next-year cars (like at the end of 2011, some had 2012 cars)? Those cars weren't built in the future...
