Quick reroute question, 1.8 thermostat housing and COPs
I've got my motor out, got a kia water neck and the moss spacer. I want to use the little port on the back of head for my stock coolant sensor, and the kia water neck won't work unless you booger the connector up. I'm going to tap the spacer for the heater core feed, but don't want to bother with the machine work to make a port for the stock coolant sensor. So my question is, does the 1.8l thermostat cover work outside of the interference w/ the coil pack? I'm running cops and don't care. It looks like it'll work based on frank's site, but I figure it might hit the firewall or just make it hard to get the motor back in. Anyone tried this? Maybe even skip the spacer and tap the head for the heater core feed?

My problem is the factory coolant sensor needs a flat surface to seal to, perfectly perpendicular to the tapped hole. A GM sensor would be easy enough since they're NPT, but more money. I can't seem to find where anyone has done a 'spacer less reroute' for a 1.8 though (reading your thread now, lol), I think it'll be fine pointing straight up though, seems like the water neck is roughly the same amount back as the cas. Guess I'll sell my spacer and kia waterneck. Anyone know how much to machine the spacer for the thermostat? I have a lathe and figure I'll do that before I sell it so whoever gets it doesn't have to worry about that.

No idea. I just measured and machined on the spot. didn't write down measurements.
and there are a few spacerless re-routes, just search for them.
I believe BRG racer was the 1st to do that.
I was going to go spacerless too, but don't like doing stuff you can't undo, so I went with the spacer like just about everyone else.
