Guys... I'm having trouble taking out the AC vent thing out of the cup. It's off the dash but that middle part isn't coming out and it's driving me ******* nuts. Any tips?

 

Small screwdriver pressed into the clip things around the edges of the trim ring. Pry each, one by one. It's a pain, but it'll pop out. It'll also sound like it just broke, but it'll snap back in.

find a way to turn the cup 90 degrees. it should free the clips from their recesses.

 

I took a clothes hanger and bent it up. Sort of hard to explain, but I bent it strait. Then I folded it into a rough "U" shape. Then on each end of the "U" I bent the tips over to form another "U". I hope that makes sense, it forms a U with two hooks.

I slid this into the eyeball vents and used the hooks to grab the back of the vent cup. Then I just ripped on it until it came out. No damage at all, and it got em out. It was one of the hardest things I've done on the car, they are in there TIGHT. I bent the prongs back a bit so now the vents pop out by hand. Good luck.

 

Get some thick string (like that stuff they have at home depot to strap your stuff down when you buy something big) and one of those "grabber on a stick" things (three pronged thing that lets you pick up a screw or something if you drop it in a bad place. Tie a small knot on the string and stick it in the eyeball vent. Use the grabber to pull it back out on the opposite side of the eyeball. Just give a good hard yank and the eyeball will pop out. You'll think you broke your dash and you will **** yourself but it will come out without damage.

 

I just used a screwdriver and pryed until it gave .... but dont do that, i broke a tab or two. Basically i dont give a **** because this one is a racecar and I pretty much only drive it to the autocross and back .... and maybe to the store or a restaraunt on the way back to pick up suff to eat or bbq.

 

Seems all you guys missed the part where he said it was already off the dash. Oh well.

 

oh ah. Once its off the dash, but you wanna get the ring, there is 3 tabs you need to push in while pulling out on the ring. Do it one at a time and work around. Its a bitch but you will get it.
