Default which amplifier

so im going to get an amp to just hook my ipod into and get rid of the deck, i have two door speakers and a sub in the trunk that i need to power, so im going to get a 4 channel amp. i have it narrowed down to two, anyone have experience with either of these? im leaning towards the alpine but my girlfriend can get the orion pretty cheap.

Can you do a little write up for this please? I got a free amp and I've been wanting to do this for a while. I forgot how to do it though .

Just as an FYI, things such as this exist:

I expect that particular one is probably ****, and while you won't get the same 50 megaton output as you can from a discrete amp, it's one less thing rolling around the interior of your car tethered to a cable.

Others:

Sony DSX-S100 (iPod goes inside- very cool)

Sony DSX-S200 (Same thing, only 100 higher. Gotta be better.)

Sony DSX-S300 (Yet another 100 higher. This one must give blow jobs or something.)

Actually, these may be exactly what I've been looking for. It appears you can also connect a standard USB stick (instead of an iPod) and it goes inside rather than sticking out the front like most of 'em. Hell, I'm gonna buy one of these now.

I imagine that many of us could turn that ipod into a projectile if there's nothing but the dock connector holding it down.

Hence the Sony ones, where the iPod goes completely inside the HU, behind a closed door.

i dont see why i would want an i-pod playing deck when the amp will sound about 10 times better, power my sub, and it wont be steal-able.

I almost did this, and when I did it the point wasn't for convenience or sound, but a little less weight, and being able to use that dash space for gauges.

Many have done it. It's stupid easy. Right amp just depends on placement, and what you're pushing. You can't fit either of those behind the dash unless your heater core is gone, so you're left running wires down the tunnel. Not bad really, and you can grab a fused 12V from the battery easier.

Looks like the second one is discountinued. The first one looks better, and is more compact overall anyhow.

I'd be looking at CL though. Amazing what used audio goes for.

Nevermind. Output drops to like 18w at 12v. Works well with a good 24v PS. Too bad.
