Yes. Miatas are a ton of fun and cost very little in the USA. In fact many people try to sell them for high prices, but a good condition used Miata can be bought for around $3000 USD.

Things are worth what someone will pay for it. I got a good deal on my '97 M edition w/ small dents and scratches, needed a heater hose set, a radiator, and shortly needed a clutch 6months later. Half case of flat black later it's still not pretty, but has worked fine short of some oil consumption lately. Had it for 4yrs+. You really don't want to know what I payed.

I can't believe it's up for debate... those are flatouts lol. if you counted the spokes to begin with you could rule out the other suggestions right off the bat. not to mention flatouts are a really popular cheap wheel that are comparable to most common miata track wheel sizes

OP for 4k if you don't get something that at least has a 1.8 then I will be disappointed. For 4k, you should be able to get something that is immaculate and has a torsen. That is neither, run far far away.

And you can pick up Heliums used with tires on them for cheap most of the time on craigslist and stuff. I've seen a few sets in the last few months.

Don't buy a '89-'93 Miata because they have smaller engines, smaller brakes, and a rear differential that is weak and will break easily. The '94 and newer cars are more desirable for these reasons. You can buy the earlier cars if you are willing to spend the money and do the work to change things to the larger components.

Thank you all for the very useful information. Now i am a proud bone stock clean 94 m edition owner. Exterior and seats are not perfect but it is mechanically well maintained and smooth. Everything runs smooth but the previous owner for whatever reason took the cat off. Is that a good idea?
