Tranny fluid choices for grinds
I have a grind from 1-2nd gear pretty much every morning for the first 5 minutes. I don't know what's currently in the Miata. Haven't changed it since I bought it.
Gonna change out the fluid. Hoping for some recommendations from your guys' own experience w/ improving my grind situation. BTW, temperature range out here in central CA is 35 to 106 degrees.
Redline MTL or MT-90
Amsoil
GM Synchromesh
Thanks.

Unless you JUST got the car, this is an MNet question.
I would venture to say that most of us change all the fluids first thing when we get a new to us vehicle.
As a side note, I bought a 1991 BRG last fall and lent it to someone for a week before I had a chance to change everything out. When I got it back with the comment that the shifter rattled, I found that there had NEVER been oil in the turret.

Synchromesh may be on the thin side for our transmissions. It's similar to a 5w30 fluid, whereas a 75w90 viscosity is recommended for our transmissions. The things I've read on RP indicate they shear and are viscosity unstable after little mileage. IMHO, Amsoil or Redline and you're good to go.

I went with royal purple because that's what the closest parts store had when I did the clutch. 1-2 grinds when really cold. Maybe I'll go with amsoil from Rick next time, but so far I'm OK.
