Sav,it's not the weight of the hood that is the problem,it's the inferior design of the hood due to the lack of experience and the material used.

Wow.

And I never once said anything about the weight of the hood. Fiberglass is not as ridgid as aluminum and thats why stiffer more widely available hood shocks will give the o.p.'s results. I dont ever recall talking to you like that. ever. so id appreciate it if you did the same for me.

Maybe I misunderstood your comment, Leatherface. You have PM.

Either way, the stiffness of the hood has nothing to do with it either. Mike shouldn't have just epoxied bolts into the hood.

+1, im still waiting to see pics of one of these hoods completely destroyed from track abuse. (IE flying off at 100+mph, lol).

The proper term would be damper

Midtenn 12-31-2008 07:34 PM

Actually the proper term would be gas spring. Dampers just slow things down.

hustler 12-31-2008 07:49 PM

actually the proper term would be "poz-rod"

I have no disagreements with how Mike shouldve done it. Emilio is right though, its a functional cheap hood.

if it was a top notch hood it would either have some anchored studs like the ones previously posted or it would have some anchored threaded steel collars. however if it was a top notch hood it would also cost 2x the amount. i will personally take the cheap price and re do the fasteners myself if that's what has to happen.

After installing hood shocks on the hood on the first try to close it, the bolt/stud decided to give and yank right out of the hood. Now im looking for suggestions to get this thing back on the car properly.

Ideas that have come to mind:
1: Hood pins on the factory hinges- Although im NOT looking for that ricer look with hella hood pins y0!
2: Try and jb weld/fiberglass it back into place and say fuck it to the hood shocks.. however I really want these shocks ...
3: Last but not least drill a hole where the back stud used to be on both sides and throw a bolt through it and call it a day.

What are my options guys?

if you need to invest in some hood latches, these look no where near rice!

Seeing as how it's been 10 months, he's probably figured something out.

thesnowboarder 10-18-2009 02:06 PM

I ended up cutting a small hole and throwing a bolt with a washer through the back to replicate a stud. Hood pins are on the front and holding up still. If/when this goes south ill probably put two more hood pins on the oem hinges through the hood.

WonTon 10-18-2009 02:19 PM

that will do it! haha
