And thats what the fastback should have been from the start.

Sadly way out of what I can/would spend.

leatherface24 08-26-2009 02:48 PM

Last call for pre-payment on Friday (8/28/09) and we'll start the GB.

UrbanSoot 08-26-2009 02:53 PM

baller and actually not too expensive. too bad i just got a fiberglass top on last gb...

neogenesis2004 08-26-2009 03:19 PM

Oh god....that is a ton of money...but I want it so bad.....What would shipping be to the east coast? I mean $1500 is a ton but honestly reasonable when compared to the going rate of the avg hardtop. What are we talking about as far as total cost with shipping though? Also I read that it uses stock weather stripping. Can I assume it doesnt come with any of it even at that high price? I didn't see that talked about at all in the thread. If not I would have to tack on another what 2-300 for that stuff?

icantthink4155 08-26-2009 03:26 PM

I definitely like the windows alot better like this version. I would love to have that but 1. Im way too poor, 2. it wouldnt look good with my horid paint.

All that stuff is still being worked out. We need a finished piece right out of the mold in order to get a shipping quote. needless to say its gonna be shipped via freight. Its like shipping a bath tub lol.

Weather stripping and all that jazz is really up to Mike. we've been talking about it but nothing is set in stone yet.

UrbanSoot 08-26-2009 03:56 PM

i would definitely be interested in this later. plus i can just drive there and get it installed on my car :)

neogenesis2004 08-26-2009 03:56 PM

Its answers like this that keep me from jumping all in. Considering shipping might be like $500, seals might be like $300, and the price jumps up $300 in 2 days I can't believe you ahve gotten any deposits at all. I mean you are talking like a $1000 sway in price for all these unknowns. If I could get it with seals, shipped to the closest loading dock for $2k or less I would be emailing grinder right now.

With all these unknowns though it isn't likely I will be buying it at all. I certainly am not going to get it at the "regular" price of $2200....

tiber55 08-26-2009 04:02 PM

I think the people who have paid are all on the west coast.

Its not for the feint or heart, but at 1500 even with painting shipping seals hooks, whatever else it will need to be installed it is an amazing price on a very high quality good looking piece. All in I bet the guys on the west coast are expecting 2k, but honestly that is a killer deal for what you get.

neogenesis2004 08-26-2009 04:05 PM

I think its completely unacceptable to post a price at all or even ask for a deposit if you don't know what you are getting for the price. I can understand not knowing the exact price of shipping but I think you could get a rough quote based on dimensions and an estimated weight. As far as it being up in the air if it includes seals are not...How can any reasonable person that doesn't already own a hard top, like me, be expected to blindly give money for something not knowing if it comes with these pieces.

I can afford the top, thats not the issue. The issue with that it costing me $2k and it costing me $3k in the end are completely different numbers. One is acceptable, the other is not.

Seals are not 300 dollars dude. Finishlineperformance.com had seals for like a150 for both sides together. You have to call them.

Vashthestampede 08-26-2009 04:23 PM

Yeah I agree with neo, without a set in stone price and description of what you'll be getting, you just might end up getting fucked.

Anyways the quality of the hood I got from Mike isn't anything to write home about. Hopefully they spend more time on the finished quality of the fastback then they did on their hoods.

I think with the right color, wheels, etc the fastback can look dope. However whenever I see one I think of those 2 idiot brothers on cr.net.

Just my :2cents:

neogenesis2004 08-26-2009 04:25 PM

I still need to buy the metal pieces they hook into... Regardless, I need these questions answered and I don't see why that shouldn't be done before Friday's deadline. I guess I'll just email grinder directly since even though you are pushing this thing, you don't seem to be able to answer any real questions about it.

Its not unnaceptable to ask for deposits now. Its not like they arent refundable. And i agree if there was a 1000 dollar differance but there wont be. On top of that, again, you cant get a shipping quote till the finished piece is done adn have that weighed. Hence the group buy doesnt officially start till friday. This is just for people who want to get on it now before hand at a lower price.

I too would like to get in on the early price, but you need to see it from my perspective. If the additional costs will rise that high, then it becomes fiscally unattractive no matter how much I love the way it looks. And how can you say that the extra cost will not be that high? You admitted that you have no idea what pieces it comes with beyond the HT and the windows.

Believe me, I would love to be the only person in VA that I know of sporting one of these. But the total cost has to be reasonable, and I need a picture of that cost before I give my money away.

Also, it was NEVER mentioned that the deposit was refundable...If that is in fact guaranteed to be the case then I will send in a deposit anyway to lock in the price.

leatherface24 08-26-2009 05:00 PM

Do as you wish man. I understand where your comming from. You do realize you can use the softop weather striping and the aluminum part to mount it onto right?

neogenesis2004 08-26-2009 05:23 PM

No, I didnt know that.

leatherface24 08-26-2009 06:05 PM

Yeah it works quite well actually.

Who cares what she says....shes a woman....

Tell her to go make some chocolate chip cookies. And then send me some in the mail.

Mike (Grinder) said it would be roughly $250-350 for shipping to the good side of the US. So that would make the total roughly $1800 before paint.

leatherface24 08-26-2009 10:46 PM

Too bad you dont live close. Id help you out with paint

elesjuan 08-26-2009 10:54 PM

Meh I dunno.

It looks okay, but I don't think I'd ever want one. If someone actually did a fastback conversion on the car, not just a hardtop... That'd be a different story. I really miss the hatchback of my Z31 so it'd probably be something I'd like to have, but this just isn't me.

albumleaf 08-26-2009 11:30 PM

I hate the spoiler bit. If I had assloads of disposable income I might consider it, but that nasty lip would be the first thing to go.

jayc72 08-27-2009 12:13 AM

Can you access the trunk with out taking the top off?

Me too. If it is guaranteed refundable, I would lock in the price as well.

Nagase 08-27-2009 06:54 AM

Yeah, looks like top = no trunk.

If it could become a hatchback somehow with the top I'd be all over that. o.o

leatherface24 08-27-2009 08:59 AM

The trunk is removable.

Nagase 08-27-2009 09:03 AM

Removable how? You actually have to take it off? Doesn't look like it can swing up...

I'm kind of thinking of this from a "getting groceries" perspective.

leatherface24 08-27-2009 09:11 AM

Ah then in that case its a sacrafice to make cause the trunklid has to come off in order for you to use the trunk. To me it doesnt matter but in know not everyone is willing to give up the ease of the oem trunk use.

JayL 08-27-2009 10:12 AM

Not really liking the look on that NB. Maybe the finished product on a decent car will change my mind though.

Somehow, I suspect that the ChaserAero hardtop weighs less than the Autokonexion hardtop.

leatherface24 08-27-2009 12:09 PM

ok.

jayc72 08-27-2009 12:21 PM

How does the trunk remove?

Hmmm.

Do not want.

i guess ill be the only one on here with one then lol

DontPassTheFence 08-27-2009 04:09 PM

the chaser aero top only weighs less because that one has a lexan window instead of glass. Did you know the chaser aero top is fiberglass construction with a layer of cosmetic carbon twill? Its just a dolled-up OEM top, please do not sensationalize it.

If you were serious about not being a ricer, a full dry carbon top made in an autoclave is what yee be seekin`. I think axis power still sells some, possibly.

leatherface24 08-27-2009 04:14 PM

Yeah and the Axis top is also 3k

leatherface24 08-27-2009 04:33 PM

lol the fastback is three quarters of the way there. buy one and make it happen brain

cueball1 08-27-2009 05:09 PM

So is it still $1500 prototype pricing or is it the $1800 GB price now? Are windows included? Lexan or glass? I ran through that thread but skimming a dozen pages I didn't see that info.

superslow 08-27-2009 05:11 PM

Lexan included. DIY install on that. 1500 until tomorrow. then 1800. AFAIK. Please correct me if I am not correct leatherface.

leatherface24 08-27-2009 05:55 PM

Its still 1500 till tomorrow and yes it comes with lexan windows

fastback kit question

how does this work with a convertible miata? does the fastback just go right over it, and the convertible stays in? or do you delete the whole convertible part, and if so how would you go about doing that?
