So I drive 3 hours last week(1 way) to pick up a motor with 88xxx miles on it. I spoke to them, they said compression numbers will be check and it will be pulled tonight and ready for pickup in the morning.
I get to the shop after several hours in the car. I see a red car on the lift. No one was around, it had no engine and appeared that it was pulled only a short time ago. So I assumed that this was the car the engine came from, on the window was written 125,453. So I took that as the mileage. So I look outside and see my engine, GREAT!. But I was not crazy about the 40,000 mile difference in the mileage. So I pull off the rest of the radiator hose that was left on the engine(they cut it off the car instead of pulling the hose off). So I walk over to the red car. 100% match. So I knew it was 100% from that car. Owner finally arrives and tells me that the engine was not from that car. He told me prior to me driving up that they had 1 99 motor 12 hours before I drove up so there was no possibility of another. He had said they had junked the shell that my motor came from that morning (which I found weird since it was a miata scrap yard 10-15 shells, 5-8 half cuts) So why would they toss mine rite away instantly??? odd. So I show him that this motor was 100% from this car. Showed him the hose that matched up 100%. Keep in mind this was the only non shop miata indoors. I will let the rest of you decide, personally I/ no one should ever do business with liars. Lie to someone over the phone is one thing, but to do it in person is complete disrespect. I showed the owner how the hose matched up 100% to his cut, he just stood and continued to tell me that it was not from that car. I guess I will let this photo speak for itself. I am really pissed that I wasted an entire day and a lot of fuel/toll $ just to be lied to by an extremely unprofessional shop. Beware of who you do business with. I trusted this shop enough that I thought something like this would never happen. Worse then a JUNK YARD. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1340928532 http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8022/7...0e5e0d99_k.jpg |
Is this OJ glove/hose supposed to show me that dust is different colors on different cars? I'd expect a junkyard to have several Miatas, all with the same dust on them.
|
Planet miata are good peoples
|
Yes. Clearly, the hoses are not a matched set. Too big of a difference in the amount of dust.
I don't think I've ever bought anything from planet miata, but I know they've been around for a long time. Sucks that you wasted your time, but now you can share the story with all of us. |
I am sure that the engine was cleaned once it was pulled out of the car hence the different shades of hose.
Good people are good people till they get caught in a lie. They are even worse when they do not come clean and say yes. I made a mistake. |

As for checking the vin numbers I was asked to sit in the waiting area and to not be in the shop any longer. I did not even think of it at the time, but I had enough proof to leave and never to $0.01 worth of business with these liars. ---- out 20 gallons worth of fuel and another $20 in tolls.
|
i wouldn't have let you in the shop at all!
why would you think it's ok to just waltz right into an area for employees only? |
And start yanking parts off a car.
Who's to say the engine was the original for that chassis? Who's to say they don't cut the hose in approx. the same place every time? Without the engine sitting in the engine bay, you have no idea if that hose matches up with the inlet to the water pump. I could cut a coupe identical hoses and hold different pieces up together and have them look similar. You've made a lot of assumptions, and as the phrase goes, you've made and ass out of yourself, and you don't have an engine. Who's the loser now? |
I "yanked" a coolant hose off of the engine I was about to load into my car. I walked into the shop an confirmed a 100% match of the hoses. Who's the loser......a 57 year old e-thug? I walked away from a terrible business happily, if you choose to do business with sketchy salvage yard.. be my guest.

Are you talking about planet Miata in Wilkes barre PA?
|
they're in swoyersville......but yeah i think that's who mr OP is talking about. also, they're not a salvage yard.
|
hmm, to outright lie is bad business, unless he is a tard and doesn't know his inventory and/or the flunkies in the back pulled the wrong motor?
IIRC they make/made alot of money off of spec racers with big wallets and small brains... i have never dealt with them and probably wont because i have no need to. edit, when you find a NON sketchy salvage yard, let them know so they can fix it... they make money by scamming alot IMO... |
You really sound like a spoiled piece of ---- 14 year old. Making nothing but assumptions and complaining about it like you need to inform the world of your hurt anus.
It's one hose. ONE HOSE. Deal with it. They pulled the goddamn motor for you. Do you have ANY clue what 99% of the real junk/salvage yards do when you want a motor? They tell you bring your tools and pull it yourself. If you want to hear real horror stories about getting stuff at junk/salvage yards I'll be glad to enlighten you. Ever had the cops called on you for not buying injectors when the owner said he had 2 RX7's but really had a RX7 and a CRX? Ever been interrogated because you "stole" bodywork from a car and hid it inside of a van? Ever had to jack up a car that was 10 inches deep in mud to get the differential out because the owner decided to move it after it rained even though you called and told him not to move it? That was a shady/unprofessional company. I've down business with Planet Miata before and so have other people on here. They are indeed good people. I'm sure you got that motor for a great deal. But because you didn't like they way they have their shells stored outside (are you ------- kidding me?!) you had to assume they are liars and they ruined your $2 hose. Get a ------- life. |

Nice of you all to side with platnet miata.
Still none of you really know wtf happened. They do a lot of biznass and it was probably some fuk up or mistake. Sucks. Couldve also been f'ing with the guy here too. That said 20k miles is not that bjg a deal for a stock miata motor. I would compression tested it and been done |

I was actually kinda on OP's side til he said he didn't verify vin.
Now I'm confused. Isn't the VIN number, the MOST IMPORTANT WAY OF VERIFYING THE IDENTITY OF ANY IMPORTANT PART, something you'd check before some stupid coolant hose??? Not trying to side with planetmiata, but c'mon now: if you're going to badmouth a reputable business on a forum you better be 130% sure you're right beyond a shadow of a doubt by checking the VIN, and not getting a pic of some hose. What happened sucks either way though. |
burden of proof: too heavy.
|
VIN is easy to check for both the OP and planet miata. Why didn't Planet miata just show the OP right at the beginning the vin tag on the side of the engine didn't match the chassis? The OP might not have realized there is a tag on the engine, I don't fault him for that. But someone in the business obviously knows that. Unless the vin tags did match. Who knows at this point. it's something both parties now have to live with.
|
Because they were probably trying to scam him lol
|
@ Tim, seems like the OP made up his mind while playing detective even before an explanation.
Planet-Miata sounds like good people, will buy from them! |
Remeber when blkmkiii turned out to be a little bitch.?
 |
hahahahhaha!!!!!!
|
props
|
I want on the of those rollers.
|
Also wanted to point out that if you came over to our shop and started going through my sh*t taking pictures and pulling off parts, even if its parts that you came to buy, I'd tell you to go f yourself.
|
I assume all junkyards lie about miles/condition/testing of components. I sell big wheel loaders with car forks to several of them and they all do it as a standard practice. I'm more surprised the op expected accuracy.
|
----..I got negative props...when the OP gets banned do my -props go away? I have 100% positive feedback on e-bay and now this.
Sorry for the off topic. |
worrying about props is like worrying about your post count. only the faggits do it
|
And yet you can clearly see who the major douchers (like Pusha) are cause they have negative prop counts.

Haha, I literally pulled Steve to the car to show him that the hose is a perfect match In any event the motor has over 100,000 anyways. I did run a report on it. In 2008 it had 102,000 mi on it.

vtecisWACK!
the vin is indeed for the red car. you can google it and find out mileage is roughly 125-127 or whatever... a rollback can easily be an engine swap and considering we drive miatas, of which there are over 900000 in existence, an engine swap is quite feasible. in fact, op you were going to do an engine swap. now, if you look at the other vin number - jm1nb3533x0103010 - it's for a green miata with roughly 85-88k on it. this thread... https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1340978192 |

Phillyb I suggest you take a closer look and zoom in on this photo by clicking the link and clicking the magnifying glass it will allow you to see the photo in 2048 x 1142 (huge photo) and the vin number clear as day.

i can see it...i can also see the ebay item number...which has a different vin.
not to mention, it has a different "seller" than planet miata. i don't understand... try using carfax, not ebay |
Those are two different reports.
2 different vins, 5 owners vs 6. |
