brake calipers the same?

the caliper itself is the same for 90-93 as well as 94-on correct, just the brackets are different?

corect. Front and rear. You'll need different pads too.

Braineack 07-20-2007 10:44 AM

yep.

ecugrad 07-20-2007 11:27 AM

Yes, but.................

If you have new 1.6 pads, they wont fit the 1.8 rotors. If you have some "seasoned" 1.6 pads, they will work with the 1.8 rotors.

1.6 pads are WAAAAAY thicker than 1.8's.

miata brakes generally suck. Someone needs to make a 11.3" vr6 swap kit or something. Those brakes were awesome.

I'm seriously thinking it might be cost effective to buy the wilwood front brakes.

ecugrad 07-21-2007 07:59 AM

Miata brakes are "ok" IMHO, if you want brakes that suck, drive a DSM.

From what I understand, it is pretty easy to adapt the RX7 S2 calipers/rotors to the Miata. I think they are 12" rotors, with 4 pot calipers. I'd have to do some math to figure out if the calipers would play nice with the Miata master cylinder.

that would be cool. I don't really want to spend any more money on this car.

any thoughts on this? I'm about to buy these wilwoods.

Whats the sizes of the master cylinder and the calipers? Ill do the math real quick

that defeats the entire purpose of the upgrade.

and technically the front 1.8 pads are a little thinner and the rears are a tad thicker.

I'll have to hit the junkyard with some calipers...but I don't know what I'm going to do for rotors.

olderguy 08-03-2007 01:06 PM

Generic rotors at local parts places are cheap.

If I'm getting aluminum 4-piston calipers, I'd like to get a larger rotor to take more heat. I'd run hawk race pads on stock 1.8's, but I don't think that's going to cut it.

someone was selling the fronts only with capilers, custom brackets, and rotors for $200 shipped.

Thanks

I thought the FM wilwood bbk were vr6 rotors, just bracketed to fit the miata. might be wrong though

hustler 08-03-2007 01:17 PM

I'm also still toying with the idea of 01 sport brakes, but apparently its hard to get pads for those.
