Late to the party. Stop guessing if your rad caps are good or not, I've gotten DOA ones from mazda motorpsorts. Put the cap on and squeeze the upper rad hose, if you can hear/see the coolant flowing into the overflow its no good. You have to squeeze really really hard to make it go in with a good cap, don't know if its even possible though, never made coolant go into the overflow with this method on a good cap.

I have seen the edge of the filler necks on aluminum radiators bent upward slightly keeping the cap from holding rated pressure, though the cap was fine. Just something else to check.

Lower rad hose just burst, lol. What else can possibly go wrong?

That might be a good indication.
I've had a case where a hose was deteriorating and it caused blockage. Looked OK from the outside. Maybe it's time to refresh the rubber? Is it newish? |

That might have been collapsing while running, being the equivalent of a blockage. I told you it was the flow.

When my lower radiator hose came off the radiator - within 90 seconds of parking the car in the garage after a commute home - it was because the radiator cap wasn't letting the pressure out at all.
