Default Buyer Help

I’m looking to buy a 92 miata this weekend. Only 92k miles on the engine and from what I’ve read it’s bone stock beside the exhaust and it looks like (from the pictures) a few exterior mods. Seller is asking 4K and doesn’t seem to want to budge. First time Miata buyer so curious if you guys think that’s a good price. Should I try to talk him down a little? Open to all input. Thanks in advance.

Any rocker rust? Also, where are you located? I am in the Northeast (rust belt) and a clean 1.6 with no rust has been going for between 3500-5000 from what I have seen (they're appreciating slowly, 5 years ago they were dirt cheap)... prices do seem to vary depending on geographic location!

I’m in Virginia. Didn’t look to be any rust in the picture but it’s hard to tell from a picture of any body works been done. No rust/body work listed in the description so fingers crossed. But from what you’re saying, 4K seems to be right on the money.

Make sure the hood is aluminum. I bought my first ignorant to that fact. The steel replacement is a boat anchor.

Hey, you said it.

Don't buy a 1.6 car.

Most upgrades to 1.6s involve 1.8 parts
But condition/asking price, at least in my area, range from 1500 being dirt nasty, rusted or modified near to death but runs and drives fine to 7000 being low mileage, zero rust with minor issues.
If you like the mods and it doesnt leak or act up, just try to talk them down in person? Otherwise its a bit high but not out of the ballpark

40 days later and it still hasn't sold.
I'd look real carefully at that one.
It has been passed over by multiple people by this time.
There may be a reason.
Hell yes, you should negotiate if this is the car for you.
As you are a first time buyer I'd want a knowledgeable person to look it over first

I'm also in the "just get a NB or NB2 crowd".
If you're looking to mod/boost the car get an NB2 with a Torsen and the 6 speed.
This will be the "cheapest" car to mod as it already has the toughest drivetrain.
It will also be 10 years newer which is a huge plus.
