Default California Bay Area Hardtop Thefts

Looks like hardtop thieves are back at it. They attempted to take my hardtop last night in the east side area of san jose. PLease, if you are looking for a hard top and find one for cheap know that is it probably stolen and do not purchase it.

Of course it was raining

It is so easy to Jimmy the door on our cars that only a tool would break a window. But then again only a tool would try to steal a hardtop.

My hardtop is not in good condition but it has been marked for identification if ever stolen.

What deterred the thief after-all? Latch locks? Bolted in? Or just something spooked 'em?

Bolt it with proprietary security bolts. Most likely they will come back. Not sure how to deal with it. Second time this has happened for me. They stole my first top.

East side is a shithole. It's starting to seem like owning a Miata here it's not a matter of if but when.

You know things are grim in a society when people are willing to steal stuff like this. As my friend's theft prevention stereo was beeping at him a few days ago I was thinking "people don't steal these things anymore, do they?"... I guess they do!

I would combine Acne Talon locks with the security bolts, too easy to grind off the center of the security bolt to remove them. Make it as big of a pain in the *** as possible to take the hardtop off, make sure your insurance covers it if stolen, and hope for the best.

Eventually I'll weld it in.

I'm thinking that making a little pocket to hide a Tile Pro might not be a bad idea, than you can track your top down if stolen as well.

Don't they only have a 300 foot range? I'm not sure they are meant for this purpose.

Apparently things can be located by anyone with the app (location passed to the servers, not the users). So not fool proof, but gives a better hope of finding it. Would be worth the $20, IMO
