Can I fit a Miata diff in my Miata?

No trollface - is seriousface. Trying to figure out how to transport a miata diff to a shop.

Easiest way to transport a diff to the shop would be to drive to the shop...

 

I brought a diff + axles + hubs because we couldn't get them off the axles + driveshaft 4 hours from St. Louis. Probably could have fit 3-4 more sets of that.

 

You can store them in your spacious anus

.....seriously if you cant visually size up a miata diff and realize it would fit into just about any crevice in your car you have a big problem.

I think he might mean a complete diff with the wings. I know it'll fit in the passenger seat/footwell. Might be an interesting squeeze into the trunk.

I meant the full carrier gaiz , not just the differential part.

Trying to figure out how to store a full swap in the Miata, I think I'm going to have to remove the passenger seat.

 

wtf are you guys talking about? I fit a full carrier PLUS 2 axles PLUS 2 hubs still attached to those axles in my trunk. The only thing that needed the passenger's seat was the driveshaft.

What would suck unbelievable amounts of **** is if I bought the swap and couldn't fit the diff.

 

You drive a convertible: its basically a basket. It can fit another miata worth of parts if you REALLY tried

I can get a new OBX diff with a 3.9 R&P. Or for $100 more than that, I can get a 4.1 stock torsen with ~100kish.

I'm thinking OBX personally, any recommendations from you? I'm thinking OBX personally.

I'd swap my 3.9 for a 3.6 or the mythical 3.3 in a heartbeat

Of course this assumes your car will have the ***** to need longer gears.

 

I would trust the OBX up to 300hp, so long as you followed the hondatech rebuild instructions before installing it. So you'll need to factor in the 35 bucks for the parts to do the rebuild of the lsd.

Thinking I'll go OBX then 18psi - sounds like it's roughly in the same realm as the torsen.

 

Yeah if you search around google you can find a guy that sells the entire setup you need to do the rebuild, including the correct spring washers and the bolts not made out of cheese.

 

Both are good to 300. Possibly more, depends on how you treat it. Go for it, report back.
