Can a trans fit in the passenger side of a miata?

well can it punk? Must I remove the seat?

TURNS101 05-24-2010 01:44 PM

easy

Bond 05-24-2010 01:46 PM

No way, jose.

Your car will go in circles

WonTon 05-24-2010 01:47 PM

just remove the seat and lay some plastic down....

magnamx-5 05-24-2010 01:50 PM

i dont see why it wouldnt

cueball1 05-24-2010 01:52 PM

Tranny's fit perfect in the trunk. All four kinds, 5 speed, 6 speed, automatic and crossdressers all belong in the trunk. Why would you want to haul one in the interior?

Seriously though. Why inside? The tail shaft fits into the left opening in the trunk and the bell housing rests with plenty of clearance for the trunk lid.

If a couch can fit in a miata, why wouldnt the trans be able to?

Four screws in a pair of rails, five on some......seriously....:2cents:

I ripped the seat out when I picked up my spare 5-speed. Would've easily fit with seat still installed though

It will fit; but you risk damage to the interior.

My trunk is full of other crap. Picking up a spare trans Saturday and figuring out the logistics, might need to pick it up in the miata itself.

Just install it and have two transmissions

Braineack 05-24-2010 02:23 PM

I want to install it, but the plan is getting rid of the POS current one. I'd tired of a tranny the sounds like it has straight cut gears, shifts awful, and whistling with light revs.

I've got a trans in the back of my daily right now. I'd pretty much forgotten about it. Last week, I had a dressed out longblock in it, in addition to the trans, a pallet, a footboard and two bedrails. Not sure what the problem is here.....

hustler 05-24-2010 02:25 PM

I'd pull the seats, but Johnfag and I did this last weekend to transport a trans for a friend.

Braineack 05-24-2010 02:27 PM

Cause I worry and over think things? I'm trying to prevent having to drive 45 minutes in the opposite direction to pick up my altima just to grab the trans. I planned on leaving the car on jackstands in my parent's garage AFTER I picked it up. then it's a new clutch and swap and then fabricating a new exhaust.

18psi 05-24-2010 02:46 PM

I'm sure it will fit.
What about all the oil and gunk you're going to have all over your interior though? Unless its completely wrapped in something

Braineack 05-24-2010 02:53 PM

it's wrapped.

orion4096 05-24-2010 02:56 PM

I took my new 6speed for a 2.5 hour drive in the passenger seat and then came back with the 5speed in the passenger seat. It was a bucket seat so there was more clearance, but I didn't have any problems fitting it. They wanted to roll around which was fixed by wedging some extra towels under it. My car smelled like ass for 2 weeks after that from the redline synthetic diff oil.
