"cheap" performance tires

that said: 512s are OOP. they've been replaced with Falken 912s which I have in the 15s. I got 'em for $200 MOUNTED and they are just great for the money. they are superior to the 512s which were previously on the car. they don't hold like the azenis nor even my Avon MT500 nor the KDWs, but gdamn, $200 mounted, i don't give a rats ***.
I hope to get 20K mi out of 'em as we're putting on about 2500/month on the Miata right now...

The Kumho SPT are much longer lasting than Azenis / RS2 class tires. They are in the ES100 class of grip, but are much quieter and smoother, and with much better wet grip, and seem to last longer. They also seem to hold up pretty well to autox abuse even at full tread.
They are much better than Direzzas too, IMO.
Re: rims - buy used!!! That way you can buy fairly light rims like Oz Superleggeras, or Rota Circuit 8's, Slipstreams, or their other lightweight model.

I got Falken Ziex 512's with my Konig Rewinds and re-shoed my WRX with Falken Ziex 329's last year. I wanted something with damp weather grip since it actually does rain occassionally in the desert and places where I drive. They've been kind to both my wallet and my cars. Decent ride, not too harsh, and fairly quiet... not like I could tell with the Miata though.
If I was going to get new wheels, I'd be opting for one of these.
Drag DR20
Rota RB which I couldn't find when I was buying my Rewinds.
and not forgetting...
hub rings...

That's a shame. Drifting is extremely useful to me in determining how well a tire is constructed, and how well the compound can stand up to the heat of prolonged track abuse. Sure every tire will wear much faster, some are able to wear smoothly all the way down the cords and maintain consistent grip, some start chunking and fall apart almost at full tread depth, others cannot take the heat and delaminate.

sorry, i forgot to mention, i never used them on the rears. they were on the fronts. that says a lot about them already. the sidewalls are crap, but they hold very well IF you stretch them. if you dont stretch them, they flex bad. but hell, they are pretty cheap.
If i used them on the rears, they wouldnt last me more than half a track event.

add a little rustoleum:
They weigh 13.1lb, they're strong, the look good, and you should pay $200-250 for a set. You can get kazera kz-m for $400, and they weigh 13.5lb.
If you want something other than light wheels, you're asking the wrong forum.
