I see this and I just drool. You pop the hood and all you can see is the heart. Fuck the veins, I wanna see my heart too!

I'm on a quest to clean the bitch up and get rid of all unsightly wiring and vacuum crap.

Here's day 1.

So you're OK with the rusted ass windshield wiper deflector, the uber-gay style-bar, and the doofus chrome rear-view mirror... but you really want the engine bay to shine?

While mine isn't quite as good as his, I'm still fairly happy with it

I think you could probably re-route some of the added wires (like the blue one) and clean up the bay and it would look 10x better.

Cspence's car doesn't have a lot of things yours does. To accomplish his look, you'll have to sacrifice a few systems. Whether or not that's worth it is up to you.

coastertrav 06-13-2009 02:32 PM

Yeah, my car still has cruise control, windshield wipers, and wiper fluid reservoir. Also the NB's have a fuel rail dampener on the pass side.

+1. Only way to get that look is to eliminate anything and everything that isn't absolutely necessary. If it's ugly and needed you have to fab a replacement and hide it. (like the radiator overflow bottle Cspence did) If you want any comfort at all you'll never get it that clean.

Good to try and clean yours up but as SamNavy pointed out, you have plenty of other projects that might be more obvious to the casual onlooker.

I think I see some arteries in there too!

But seriously, my car's PO did one serious tuck, and like Koto and Cueball said, if it was'nt absolutely necessary, it's gone. He also made many custom bits to move stuff out of ones sight. Figure out what can go and have at it!! :bigtu: Thanks for the props!

No.

But I use the approach: One thing at a time. Any first and foremost, I'm tired of getting dirty up to my eblows just being under the hood for 30 seconds. I'm also tired of working around stuff, that in most cases could be moved to a more convenient spot or just deleted all together.

In the process of locating/buying OEM side views.

Style bar will be replace by custom bar/cage.

Rusted winshield wiper - 5 minutes and that can/will be fixed.

I should be more focused on getting the car running, but I have no where to put it for a few more weeks (maybe 2-3 months). So other projects are filling the time between now and D-Day.

Project84 06-19-2009 08:56 AM

For Samnavy's sake, I removed the side views because it's better to not have any at all than to have the lame ass chrome ones.

Also removed and sanded wiper arms, sandblasted valve cover (after an hour of hand-sanding and wanting to cry), tucked some wires, cut some others, repaired my wiring harness in about 5 different spots, and moved the blue convoluted tubing (home to my boost sensor hose) to under the intake between the runners.

WOW things are looking about 50% better. Just wish I was man enough to delete the WW resevoir, hide/remove the overflow tank, and cut into the wire loom and delete other wiring. Maybe later.

Pics in a week or so when I've painted and installed the valve cover and wiper arms, and hopefully have put OEM mirrors back on the car by then.

Since the pic of my Barney Car above, I've also deleted the charcoal can and PS.

cueball1 06-19-2009 02:03 PM

You don't have to have OEM mirrors, just not those old school chrome things!

Let's see a quick pic now to gauge the progress!

Its also very easy to dump the Evap Canister... and all the vacc hoses and stuff associated with it on top of the RH Shock Tower.

If you ever plan on Going with aftermarket steering wheel. No time like the present to dump the airbag system... Sensors up front etc. Those wires are movable too.

Its not always about removal, just relocation... I know the honda guys remove the fenders and run everything inside the fender wells , the poke into the engine bay when needed....
goodluck

The radiator is going to crack soon.

NA6C-Guy 06-19-2009 11:57 PM

I don't care for the tucked look. Cleaned up a bit is fine, but it looks funny with nothing left. Looks like it shouldn't run. I like it to look mechanically and electrically sound.

Everyone has their own taste. If I saw that car, my first thought would be that you were part way into an engine swap or something :giggle: Not that it doesn't look good and all, I just like to have at least a few hoses and wires. I did strip my Turbo II RX7 pretty much to the essentials which only left a few hoses and wires. It also ran like horrid ass.

It may also have something to do with you not having the barn doors. Makes it look even that much more empty.

Project84 06-29-2009 08:04 AM

I'll get update pics soon fellas! I didn't do as well as I had hoped. :)
