^ More on this please. Pinned how/where? I've often wanted to do this...

BTW, this thread makes me want to buy more stuff from you to help fund this continuing supply of race car p0rn.

Emilio, earlier you call the external oil pump a vaccum pump. Does this mean you are doing more than just bypassing the K20 oil pump? Are you planning on pulling a vacuum somehow?

This external pump with wet sump system maintains a slight vacuum in the crankcase. This reduces pumping losses and blowby.

If its just a single stage, how does it get any vacuum? Doesn't it put in as much as it takes out? I'm interested because a similar setup on a miata might be a good way to get a better oiling system and reduce windage to free up a bit of power.

I think you'd need two stages for a vacuum as you have to pump to a tank.

Dunno actually. You could call John at Hytech or just google vacuum pump oil systems to find out more. I did not design or build the system so I'm probably not the best guy to ask.

But yes the primary reason for doing a vacuum pump is to reduce pumping losses and it also allows you to use a much lower tension piston ring. They will then generate a bunch less heat and friction. Piston rings are the primary source of engine heat, outside of actual combustion. This is all pretty standard stuff in NASCAR where vacuum pumps are quite common.

It's hard to find info on external wet sump oil pumps because the aren't common. You also get lots of miss good hits on stock oil pumps. I have been looking at this because doing an external Wet/vac pump on a miata would be fairly straight forward. Basically it's a single pressure stage and a one or two stage vacuum pump that you pull air from the valve cover.

Anyway back to the K20... damn it looks good. I'm starting to wish I went a similar route with my car.

Did you have to adjust clearances at all?

Glory.

Just got Deviate back from Hytech after over a year of this and that. We're going to powdercoat the red ano AEM fuel rail the same orange as the valve cover. Wiring harness is mostly built. A few days hooking things up then she gets fired up. Shawn Church and Doug Macmillan (Hondata) will tune it in a week or so. We are determined to figure out how to fit the Quaife sequential box in with custom exhaust and modified PPF. We all just for a moment, imagined what this thing would sound like at full song, cracking off flat shifts. OMG. We have to find a way to make that happen. Eventually the QBE60G will go into the OGK but hopefully, not before I have done at least one day at Buttonwillow with in in Deviate.

Oh yeah, decided this car must have 15x10 and 245 VR-1's so we'll hella pull the rears and fit some Carbonmiata fronts.

External line feeds oil to custom cam journal oiling system built into back of head. OEM system can let cams bottom in journals with stiff valve springs and high lift cams

Intake is a specific length although I don't know what that length is. 3" diameter.

Thank you.

BTW, I know I mentioned this before, but I again went back to that air filter location for a day at COTA on Friday due to the tubbed inner fenders, and I again got significantly higher than ambient (120 vs 65) IAT's.
