diff fluid

what diff fluid should I pick up for my 7" rear with rx7 clutch lsd
conditions:
1> it needs to be correct for application
2> I have to be able to pick it up today/tomorrow AM
3> it' cant cost like eleventybillion dollars

I always thourght for those LSDs you just found something with out friction modifiers...

Ben 10-05-2007 09:36 AM

if you get something w/o friction modifiers you have to then add them in. I think both GM and Ford offer friction modifier.

Ben 10-05-2007 09:43 AM

I can get Redline 75W90 Gear Oil with Limited-Slip Differential Friction-Modifier
http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/ite...p?T1=RL7590+01
$11/qt
winner?

Loki047 10-05-2007 09:53 AM

I thought the friction modifiers screw the clutch surfaces up. Or am i getting confused with motorcycles?

Braineack 10-05-2007 09:53 AM

looks like a typical 80w90 is reccomended.

brgracer 10-05-2007 10:01 AM

Call your local auto store, my local Pep Boys carries Royal Purple 75W90 (not sure if it's the friction modifiers added one though, if you need them) for ~$9 and no shipping.

Ben 10-05-2007 10:14 AM

sweet, Royal Purple will work, plus I get a small discount at pep boys AND they'll deliver :)
next hustler-esq question: how much do I need?

two of them, the big ones.

Ben 10-05-2007 10:19 AM

mmm... my owner's manual says .65 Liter for my 1.6 diff. Can't see a 1.8 diff being that much bigger :gtfo:

more than you can afford, pal.

Braineack 10-05-2007 10:49 AM

wtf are you talking about.

one, you hardly need any diff fluid. two, you're spitting out nonsense.

Ben 10-05-2007 10:52 AM

they banned me from the tracks for life.

I've never actually seen that movie, but its so much fun to quote.

Braineack 10-05-2007 10:54 AM

seriously, you're about to get gagged in about 2 minutes.

patsmx5 10-05-2007 11:18 AM

I use Royal Purple In all my vehicles diffs. and so far it's worked flawlessly. I believe Royal Purple also has the friction modifier in it. It's funny, I have 6 quarts or Royal Purple sitting in my garage right now. I'm going to change the front and rear diff oil in my 86 trooper one day.

what fluid for a new kaaz lsd? use the supplied kaaz fluid for the break-in or should i break it in with some cheap fluid and put in the kaaz fluid afterwards?

Fluid capacity for a 1.8L diff is 1 liter but I can never get more than 0.8-0.9 liters before it starts coming out the overfill hole and yes, the car is level.
