The Disassembly

Well, we started pulling the Roadster apart this Saturday. I'll just caption the photos for the sake of avoiding prolonged reading.

Total time was 1 hour 53 minutes (unfortunately I forgot to buy beer, which is why it went so smoothly) to go from this:

We would have been done a lot sooner but the guy with the engine hoist figured he'd play an extra two holes at the course first. Here's the gist of our two-hour day. Oh, and my bad for the shitty pictures. My BlackBerry is not meant to be a camera.

Just rolled out of storage and it's dirty as Eff! Loaded up. Easiest step of the day....

Apparently the side of the container was closer to my car than I thought. Now new skin is required. FML (FYI, engine is out in this picture, which is why it is sitting so high)

We revved the piss out of this crap 1.6 trying to break it about 3 seconds after it was started for the first time in 7 months and this is the worst that happened. How the belt became inverted is a mystery. Why that type of belt was even on there is another mystery.

By the time I managed to yank the one-piece exhaust from the back of my car, my friend Aaron had already pulled the IC plumbing off, the rad/fan shroud and dropped my SSQV and bent the vacuum port.

Attachment 198318
A massive section of exhaust, which weighed a lot less than you would think.

Attachment 198319
Goodbye, charcoal canister. You are ugly and do nothing useful.

Attachment 198320
The first of many dirty, dirty bolts to come out of the housing.

Attachment 198321
Don't touch those! I had to bolt the transmission back to the driveline brace. This is when he's undoing them.

Attachment 198322
I also had to put these back. Don't ask.

Good thing I don't like my women the same as my intake manifold...

I fought with this fuckin' clip for 12 minutes because the stupid lever for the clip release was broken. I was swearing quite a bit.

Attachment 198325
What's that? It won't come off? Here, let me try...

Attachment 198326
This was the first time an engine has ever come out of this car without us forgetting to detach something. That's Brian on the right, who is responsible for us adding about 40 minutes to the clock while we waited for his slow ass.

2"x4" blocks of wood solve every supporting problem man can have. Reciprocating saws also help with said wood.

After that we pushed it back on the trailer, got it back to storage and started to unload it.

Brad - "You want to hop in and steer?"
Me - " Nah, the steering column is locked. What's the worst that will happen? It rolls over one of us?"

Well, needless to say the steering column didn't stay locked. All Brad could do was shrug his shoulders while I did a massive .

Attachment 198328
Easy fix. We just lifted the car off the ramp. Yes, it is that light now. Yes, my back does hurt. The bumper is crack, but other than that, nothing else got damaged.

Thanks goes out to Aaron (who left half-way through for some reason) and Brad for helping me with it. Photos are respective.

I could have documented the transportation of this iron-blocked engine from Point A to Basement, but one of us would have died. Needless to say we destroyed my girlfriend's carpet and put a nice nick in the wall, ha ha ha. I have to buy her hardwood flooring now, which is gay.

Drop the tranny now and put it back on the engine outside of the car. It is a bitch to put in the engine and try to mate it with the tranny like that.

It stayed in the last time and there wasn't a problem. We just left the pan off for more room.

Agreed. Putting the engine and transmission in as one piece is so much easier.

Damn Canadians always screwing things up:loser:, lol. J/k dude.

What are your plans with the car? Just a refresh or something more serious?

Yeah the trailer incident was definitely my bad, ha ha.

I'm going the lazy route right now and getting FM to build me an engine when I get my cams down to them. As for this engine, it's getting a decent rebuild and going into an Odyssey. A turbo'd Odyssey, ha ha ha, such an unsafe idea.

The hardtop is awesome, but everyone thinks CF is über strong and lays the weight down in the middle of the roof, which does bad things to my irritability.

Joel Zimmerman is from Canada, you know. Ha ha.
