Toward the end of this past summer, the hood pin fairies came and moved my pins so I would forget where they were, and forget to put them in the car before going on a drive. Long story short my hood bent back over my windshield, completely fubar-ing the hood. (Windshield was fine) I figured what the hell the hood is messed up pretty bad anyway, I might as well try and make my own vented hood. So, I used a mallet and a 2x4, and got it straight enough to close and whatnot. I cut out most of the underhood supports (Left the one all around the outside) and cut a rectangle shape about 3" front to back and 15" wide right behind the radiator, but far enough forward that any water dripping in wouldn't get on top of the motor:





I fabbed up a lip out of sheet metal, but I'm not really happy with the way it looks, so I got a huge piece of fiberglass from my buddy at a local body shop and bought some resin. I made a mold out of cardboard and blue duct tape like so:



Then laid two layers of glass over the top:




Once that dries I will pull it off the mold and rivet in place on the hood.
I'm also starting on my DIY splitter, using 5mm birch plywood and fiberglass, here is how it will fit the car:




And the glass being laid on both sides(One at a time obviously, I just cut out enough to cover both sides) Yes, I got it much smoother after the pic was taken, I made sure the resin had saturated the glass fully to adhere it to the wood:



That's all for now, I'll have more later in the week when I get a chance to trim up the parts and get them painted/installed. Sorry about the crap pics as well, the DSLR has dead batteries lol

5 mm is pretty thin even with the fiberglass. How many layers of glass did you use on it and what weight?

As of now I have done one layer top and bottom. I will have to see how stiff it is before I add any more. I'm honestly not too sure about the weight, it is pretty thick stuff, two layers are probably 1/3" after being squeegeed out

Let us know how the splitter comes out. I started with 5mm then chickened out and laminated two pieces together to make it 10mm before glassing it single layer on each side and made sure I squeegeed all the excess resin out I could to minimize weight. The wood is lighter than the fiberglass so I wanted to use minimal fiberglass. I think mine came out 9 lbs with mounting brackets.
