So I am gonna drill a hole at the back drivers side of my oil pan to mount the sending unit for my oil temp gauge. I am gonna do this on the lower sump opposite the oil plug. My question is, is there a pickup tube or anything I could possibly hit in this area?
I've read about some folks using the existing drain plug as place for the sender for temps. Don't know any pros or cons about it.
I would have to search for info. It was quite awhile ago, and I was not needing this at the time.

I put mine near the oil plug, but not in it.
Also, just FYI, on a friend's car, we made him a banjo oil drain plug, and it has been working well as an turbo oil return. Go figure.
