Dual feed rail warning!!
1 Attachment(s)
I did the diy dual feed rail in Braineacks diy guide. I just wanted to alert everyone to a mistake I made that someone else might make as well.
When putting the rail back in, make sure to put the injectors IN THE RAIL FIRST then into the head. If you put them in the head and put the rail over them you can cut your injector O-rings. Also apply some sort of lube, I used petroleum jelly. Attachment 216662 I put the injectors into the head first so the little plastic spacer wouldn't fall off. Then I put the rail over them, and there is the outcome. I cut one in half, sheared half the other one off and squished the last. During the first test drive they didn't leak. Today on the way to school they leaked, SCARY drive home. I just wanted to make sure this didn't happen to anyone else. I don't blame the guide, just bringing this to everyones attention. |
Add a touch of oil to the o-rings. That'll prevent binding, splitting, and tearing.

I always put the injectors in the rail first. And I always put a little oil on the orings first. And still, 75% of the time I tear the oring on injector 3. It's always injector 3.

thx for the heads up
|
yikes...good call.
I'll keep this in mind. |
leaking o-rings is like a passage of manhood...i don't see why you are complaining ;)
|
i :dunno: I put mine in the head first to get it all linged up but i also caot it all in vasoline and i am super carefull. No g=failures yet :D
|
I've did the same, no problems, the forth or five time I've removed the rail I finally nicked an o-ring, but that was from lack of oiling.
|
Damn, I've had mine out a couple times and never gave it a second thought... guess I've been lucky. I'll take precautions next time.

brain: "Shit turn off the car" |
hahahah, what are you talking about!?

I just don't want this to happen to someone else, it was a really easy mistake to make. I did oil the O-rings when I put them in, and they still tore.
I guess it's hit or miss, but I would still advise snapping them into the rail first, seems alot safer to me. And yes it is a manhood passage, I lost half a tank of gas between my home and school that are 7 miles apart. I thought I was going to burn up. |

I found the easiest for me to do was put the lower isolators into the head first. Then install the injectors into the rail using oil. I was just really careful to wiggle the injector in and stop if it appear to bind at all. I guess I'll see if I did it right in the next day or two.

btw, did your rail turn out ok?

You ever thing that maybe you shouldn't have driven the car with a leak at the fuel rail? Let me guess, you are running a AFPR with a fuel pressure close to 100psi?
You're lucky you didn't burn up. Smartest idea? No, but then again I never claimed to be all that smart:nuts: . |
you did drive around without a hood for a while since you couldn't fit the filter in right :gay:

I've always had the stupid o-rings split on me....
First test after doing anything with the injectors, is to use the FP / GND in the diagnostics box, to make sure the fuel system is primed. That way you can check before actually "going" anywhere if you have split one. Never fails, it's always one of them, and Brain's right... usually #3. <G> Dave, |

Yep that was me, and it rained every day I had it off too. I had to bring my car cover to work and lay trash bags over my engine.
Attachment 216659 I do alot of stupid shit, that looking back on it I can't beleive I did. It will catch up to me one day and then I will learn my lesson, but until then heres to being young and stupid! |
