Dynoed @ 136whp

as requested my car made 136whp in mid april i believe, my car is mostly stock. All that was done to it was, a filter replacing the whole air box assembly, gutted cat, no muffler, and i changed the crystal to allow my car to rev higher. the power was made @ 8000 rpm indicated. That is honestly all that was done to it that i know of. the only difference between it now and then is that i put the muffler back on.

This thread needs more dyno charts. FWIW my car made 175.3 HP stock. I don't have the dyno sheet to prove it, but you guys believe me right? :jerkit:

patsmx5 08-31-2008 01:24 AM

Do you have a dyno plot? I've NEVER seen a miata make power at 8K. Seriously. They all drop off after 6500, 6800, etc.

I do, the only prob is that they are down in Eastman Ga in my file and im back in Carlton Ga for the labor day weekend. ill get them posted up asap.

Bond 08-31-2008 01:29 AM

If this is true... sell your engine to a pro spec miata team for good $$$'s

My bet is 136hp at the motor, or the dyno operator fudges the #'s. No way a semi stock motor will make 136 at the wheels. That is close to 170hp at the motor. I had a blower w/9 psi, water injection, a timing controller and I dyno'd 150.1 rwhp on a dyno dynamics. That is about 172rwhp on a dynojet since they are bogus. Use that reverse logic and you are around 116rwhp.

samnavy 08-31-2008 12:03 PM

Redrum, you got hosed by your dyno operator... plain and simple. Its pretty common with a stock car and a motivated operator to tell a customer exactly what he wants to hear... especially if the customer has extremely high expectations of his "mods". The stock Miata intake system is extemely well designed and swapping to an aftermarket CAI or deleting the stock airbox is worth very little. Pulling your muffler might make you a pony or two up high, but is probably hurting a bit of low-end torque. And if you'll seriously look at some of the FM dyno-plots in the other thread, you'll see that Miata's make peak hp by about 6500rpm. NO WAY you made peak power at 8k.

Even though Miatas aren't dyno'd stock all that often, any competent operator would know the cars don't make that much power stock. $15k Rebello Spec Miata motors make that much, but not your stock(ish) one. Sorry hoss, I wouldn't again advertise that you made 136whp on a stock motor unless you want to get shit on again. Do yourself a favor and take it to a place with a Dynojet and pay the $50 for 3pulls. Tell the operator you want the uncorrected and corrected numbers, and don't go back to that other shop.

It was a dyno day that he was having, all the other cars where making what they should have been making. and i was expected 110 at the most.

Braineack 08-31-2008 02:17 PM

ask him what correction # he was using...why/how did you pull to 8k?

I get the feeling that no matter how many people tell you otherwise, you're still going to believe it makes 136whp. Can we put this to rest and chalk it up to so some "dyno foolery" or are you putting your foot down?

Braineack 08-31-2008 02:35 PM

I need a shop and an eddy brake....I'd be rich and sell a lot of air filters and exhausts.

patsmx5 08-31-2008 02:36 PM

Post dyno Plot.

paul 08-31-2008 02:45 PM

Who cares how much horsepower his NA Miata is? I think my car makes that to the wheels when i'm first turning it over. CRANKING HP FTW!

johndoe 08-31-2008 02:52 PM

ban?

i was pulling to 8k because we were running it from i think 40 mph to 90 mph or so and if i remember correctly it was only corrected standard temperature and pressure.

and ill stake my skeptical claim of 136whp. like i said, that was alot more than i was expecting, although i would like to go to another dyno and get another pull to confirm my numbers or disprove my numbers.

and once i get back to Eastman Ga ill post my sheets asap.

and no to the ban.

Stealth97 08-31-2008 05:13 PM

there is no way it makes that much power.

You can't have both.

I'm finding it hard to believe that in the presence of OVERWHELMING evidence you won't let this go. You appear downright dense. As I said, the $15k Rebello Spec Miata engines make that much. If you think somebody stuck one of those in your car, then you should post it up HERE immediately, and re-invest the proceeds into your '01. Otherwise, you should let this thread go.

Doppelgänger 08-31-2008 06:03 PM

I tell you what, go over to Dynolab in Marietta on a Thurs. night and hand over your $50 and see what happens. They're accurate for getting numbers.

8K? You do know what is required to make a BP rev to 8k, right? I want to see you take a camera out to your car and video the tachometer goign to 8,000 rpm.
I'm willing to bet that $50 that someone didn;t have all the settings right when you dyno'ed. Hell, I was playing around on a dyno and put in one little wrong command and went from 115rwhp/112tq to 145rwhp and 300tq lol.

Stealth97 08-31-2008 06:05 PM

There was a guy on the pointy board about a year or so ago that dyno'd at 130ish rwhp on a stock 1.6, everyone pushed him to get on a dynojet and he made like 106, it was a really huge thread, I'll try to find it.
