Default EFR6258 Boost Creep from 7psi to 18psi+

I have a built turbo miata with an efr6258 .64a/r, Kraken manifold, kraken 3” exhaust, turbo smart iwg75 dual port.

currently I have the boost controller disconnected and am currently just on waste gate pressure. I have removed one of the 7lb springs so the lowest boost I can run it 7lbs of boost. But when I get on it it goes from 7psi-18psi.

looking for some help and ideas on how to fix this? Any help helps a ton!

Did you get the IWG75 with the ball joint rod? Or the straight rod? If you've got the straight rod it could be binding if not absolutely perfectly aligned with the wastegate arm.

Also check the canister isn't leaking boost, I had an old single port IWG75 that leaked and couldn't open the wastegate.

@ManiacLachy I have the straight rod. I have adjusted it so it wouldn’t bind side to side. But my rod does have to be pushed vertically down a tiny bit to go in the hole. Before it horizontally didn’t line up. Not sure if that makes any sense.

so I should get the other one?

Test the action with compressed air if you can, you'll be able to see if it's binding or if the canister is leaking. Otherwise you're just guessing, and you can't get the straight rod without separately, so you'd be up for a whole new IWG75.

found out the diaphragm is leaking doing this. My stock waste gate opens. But the turbo smart one does not and leaks through the back. Not sure if I blew a hole in the diaphragm or if it was already leaking which maybe is why it made so much boost.

My single port IWG75 did the same. Make sure you align the cups properly, there are little teeth that need to slot together, and the diaphragm isn't pinched, then double check it for leaks.
