Default Emission Testing Problems

Well it is testing time.

I dug out my MAP from the last time I passed and tried that. It did not work.

The problem is Hydrocarbons

The pass numbers are as follows

HC 0.5000 CO 9.3200 NOx 1.24

My first try on the old MAP was

HC 0.6861 (F) CO 4.9027 NOx 0.4348

On my second try, I removed about 5% of fuel and 2 degrees of timing

HC 0.8478 (F) CO 1.0284 NOx 1.0876

HC

Third try I went back to the base MAP (same as first try)

I added about 5% of fuel and 2 degrees of timing

HC 0.6614 (F) CO 9.7573 (F) NOx 0.3479

Forth try

Back to the base MAP and took of the K&N Air filter

HC 0.6198 (F) CO 8.2921 NOx 0.4965

So the fuel and timing on the base MAP I am using seems OK.

I have now changed by PCV valve to the GTX one and added two catch cans . I have not had a chance to re-test yet but I want to run something by you.

I use 94 octane gas, if I fill the tank with 87 octane for the test would that lower the HC as the fuel burns cleaner/faster???
