emissons just kicked my ass

So MD emissions i fails

Hydrocarbons
220PPM Limit
615PPM Mine

Carbon Mono
1.20PCT Limit
7.98PCT Mine

I think this is all due to Megasuirt. To get the to settle i dumped fuel in and i think because of that is why i failed.

I dont have a wideband so im not sure of my ratio, any ideas or tips to lower these two?
thanks

bite the bullet and get a Wideband. Without one you are risking leaning it out too much and blowing your engine. they aren't that expensive.

i have a wideband, but i cant get the old sensor out of the bung... I do not have a turbo on at the moment. i guess i'll see if the shop can get it out.

Dow.tom 12-22-2007 11:21 AM

okay so monday they will remove my 02 sensor and replace it with the wideband.

y8s 12-22-2007 12:25 PM

heat up the pipe around the bung with a propane torch but dont get the sensor hot and then try getting it out.

You're too rich. Lean it out some. A narrowband is perfect for tuning for emissions since you're going for stoich or just a tad lean of stoich, right in the range a narrowband is specifically designed to work in.

Don't put the WB sensor in the stock location- it'll overheat. You need to install a second bung on the downpipe about a foot before the catalytic converter.

But yeah, Ben is right. Tuning for emissions at light load is exactly what NB sensor are for. When you get it to the point where it's ticking back and forth across 0.5v with some regularity, you're there.

Dow.tom 12-23-2007 12:15 AM

can i do this in MEGAsquirt? or do i have to buy a NB?

Dow.tom 12-23-2007 12:27 PM

okay i decided to start from scratch with the base map. I got it to idle now at 54% as opposed to the pig rich 80% haha. So hopefully that will lower my hydrocarbons and carbon mono. Any other tips? Should i take a datalog and post it up here?

Dow.tom 12-23-2007 07:21 PM

well after lowering the %'s it now rides smoother than before, i dont get studding when lifting or accelerating. Is it worth it to go back fro my free emissions now or wait till april when i have my turbo on

Get a receipt for your O2 sensor replacement labor when you take it to the shop. Get a receipt for your WBO2, that is within 30 or 45 days of the emissions test. If the total for the "emissions based repairs" are over $400 total you can get a waiver for emissions at the DOT.

Damn Tom, were you even getting 5mpg?!

Dow.tom 12-26-2007 03:09 PM

prob not Scott, but i never noticed cause i dont drive it too much... By installing MSPnP to lower my fuel ratio does that count towards the 400 dollars frank, cause it cost me 700
