engine gasket set
Would someone with a mazdaspeed motorsports account be willing to give me a price on a gasket set? I'm trying to decide if I want to join, but I want to make sure the discount is worth it. I plan to race my car next year after the new motor is in. I just don't have a NASA or SCCA membership yet. The only reason to get a membership now would be to join up with mazdaspeed motorsports.

For a 1.8 it looks like the standard engine gasket set is part 8DN2-10-271, $200.10. For the same thing Rosenthal would charge $259.95 and they're one of the least expensive online dealers. Mazda Comp FTW.
I submitted two local club autox results as my "race results." The local club isn't on their drop-down list of sanctioning bodies but my results were enough to satisfy them. So they aren't that strict. If you're building a car to compete next season, just check "I am currently building a car" on the application, and in the "technical notes" section just explain the situation and what you intend to do with the car. You should not need a NASA/SCCA membership now, if you aren't racing until next season. If you have any doubts just call them up. 800-435-2508. Mazda is supportive of racers, so I'm sure it will be cool.
The most expensive maintenance job I've done so far is a timing belt job, but with all the other small parts I've gotten the savings really adds up- windshield wiper cowl, fuel filter, coolant hoses, even little bullshit like replacement bolts for the ones you round off. Whenever I can possibly anticipate the need for a (non-emergency) part I just add it to my shopping basket, the contents of which don't seem to ever expire, so I never forget. The amount of money you'll save on parts in a year should more than cover the entry fees for the two autocrosses that you need to keep your account active.

Thanks. It looks like it will take a little time. I went to sign up, but it looks like you do need to have a racing organization membership in hand.
If you are building your Mazda for racing:
If you are preparing your Mazda now, and intend to be racing within the next 12 months you will need
1. The estimate date of the first race you intend to compete in. (Within 12 months)
2. A Racing Club Membership Card - Any sanctioned racing club. (car clubs not included)
3. A Quality Photo of your car. (does not need to be in race trim)

Interesting, under my account info it looks like I can add a car that I'm building without providing results or club membership info. Obviously it's different for new accounts, sorry about that. Anyway, you'll save about $60 on the gasket set alone. SCCA membership is $65 plus regional dues that range from zero to $25. NASA membership is $45 and includes a subscription to GRM. Can't beat that with a stick.
My recollection is that it took a couple of weeks for Mazda Motorsports to approve my account after I mailed in my results. I don't know how long it would take SCCA/NASA to get you a card. Clearly this isn't the route to take if you intend to build the motor this weekend, but long term I'd say it's definitely worth maintaining a Mazda Comp account.
