So I need to replace the gaskets on my 2.5 'very high flow catalytic converter'.

I've been searching ebay and found 2 types of material. One that is straight aluminum and one that has aluminum with a cardboard-ish material on each outter-side.

Any opinions either way?

Any help on finding a good deal for 2 of them would also be apreciated.

Just use tinfoil d00d.

I recall mine being sort of a perforated aluminum with a thin piece of cardboard material in the middle.

 

Either one would work fine. I would personally just go with the cheapest one. The aluminum should crush and hold the seal either way.

 

Use RTV, black or copper. It works fine that far down as long as fitment is good, just be sure to keep it thin.

Just use care when loading up a flange that's pre cat (actual catalytic converter) since the stuff hardens and will wind up at the front of the cat.

 

I'm going to have to look into that pipe sealer.
I have used "red" RTV sealant with good results on flanges downstream of the Cat. Stays flexible and withstands the heat. Just don't expect it replace the gaskets. I use in conjuction with the gaskets.

 

I also have never heard of this sealer. IF this looks over a gasket, hat could save some money for sure.

Aluminum would hold up better, non metal type blow out after awhile
