Fd rx7 front calipers

i was wondering what it would take to put a set of fd rx7 front calipers on my 94 1.8?

Joe Perez 07-27-2010 09:49 PM

Well, first you'd need a set of RX-7 front calipers.

Then you need a 94 Mazda Miata.

You'll be waiting awhile.

Search this forum for "corrado" and you might find something interesting you can use.

Unless you run 16's, good luck getting the wheel not to rub on the caliper. They rubbed on my 15x7 ATS's when I mocked FD calipers up to Corrado rotors.

i was planning on running 16s anyways so wheel fitment isnt an issue

I have lost at least 10 brain cells reading this stupid fucking thread. OP you are a brain cell killer.

I was thinking guys, what about a mazda forumula 1 brake swap? They're from a Mazda so they should go easily, what do you think?

wayne_curr 07-28-2010 01:38 PM

Search for my thread in the Suspension and Braking sub-forum.

I can be done but I it is not easy I looked into this before I went with sport brakes. As far as I know no one makes a kit and the easiest way is with a straight adapter and a welder other than that you would have to be a decent machinist to get it to work. And 16'' would be a must as well as some bigger rotors. Good luck.

Google works wonders on weird stuff like this.

You better have some damn FD3S calipers, but I'm a helpful guy.

Many OEM big brake upgrades are this simple in similar chassis vehicles (same make):

I put OEM 11.1" Integra Type-R brakes on a '93 Civic for under $300 total.
This was under 15x6.5" Konigs. Just had to drill Prelude Type-S rotors to 4x100 &
shave 3.2mm off the ITR brackets' mating surface. That was it, bolted it up & had BAMF brakes.

Hub bore, bolt locations, brake lines & fittings etc were unchanged.

Try putting Corrado or "Sport" rotor + FD3S caliper/bracket/pad on & start
taking measurements to see how far different mounting points are then
stock. Hopefully you can just shave or shim the FD caliper brackets.

FD RX-7 calipers are obviously not popular on Miata's because they're rare &
expensive... and heavier than Wilwoods... but I like them because they're less
blang but still very potent like my Type-R brakes.

          Good luck.

Fabbing the bracket will be a bit of a pain, but doable with a welder and some fab skills.

Just get the Wilwood setup from Trackspeed and save yourself the frustration.
