My floor jack will barely get under the stock car, and I am planning to lower it with shocks and springs, so I need a new jack. So what are people using? I was thinking of this Summit SUM-G1020 - Summit® Low-Profile Hydraulic Floor Jacks - summitracing.com Looks nice and low at the lifting pad, but is the low part long enough to get under the nose of the car to the X member or diff?

I always just drive my car over a piece of wood to get that extra few inches of clearance. Never really been enough of a pain to warrant buying a new jack.

 

Plently of my friends use the aluminum race jack from harbor freight. Good pricing on them also.

 

I got an awesome Costco low profile aluminum "racing" jack for my b-day a year or so ago, but it's still too high to reach the front subframe. I use my old jack to raise one of the side jack points enough to get my new jack under the front. A pain in the ***.

 

Heh, I just pick up on the car a bit and kick the floor jack under it.

 

i just use the stock scissor jack to raise the car enough to get the regular floor jack under it.

 

i bought one in walmart works fine

I wanted to get one of those to replace my HF one, they only sell the "heavy" version at my Costco now (not as shiny).

My only complaint with the HF one is that I wish it went a bit higher.

i do this too, just a slight pull and you can slide the jack under. friends corvette we use 2x12s to drive up on.

I've been eyeing up an aluminum jack myself since my trusty(going on like 6 years, apparently new ones suck) old 3 ton craftsman is so damn heavy(like 90 pounds) if i have to carry it to the street or something. Plus it's nice to have 2 jacks around, not including scissor jacks, had one break on me and won't use one unless i have to.

Not a jack per se, but I was floored to realize that my miata will roll up on my set of low profile Rhino Ramps that I bought 6 years ago but couldn't use with either of my Zs or my Civic. Any jack will get under the front after rolling up on them.

I have the second one you linked to only mine is red, says mac tools on it and I paid about $100 more. Its an awesome jack, heavy as hell but it works great.

 

Been using a Harbor Freight silver and blue aluminum race jack at least 3 times a week since January and no issues yet.

 

Driving the car up on a peice of wood helps, but it is not always easy to do in my garage. My jack is juuuust to high, so it will not fit under the motor to lift the car on the cross member behind it. But... I know I will be getting a motorised sissor jack by my GF for christmas and I hope it will fit under the car.

 

I bought the aluminum/steel craftsman jack because my harbor freight jack died.

Just screw 2 2x6's together

 

Have a harbor freight jack and still use it b/c small enough to pack in the trunk for track days, but the low profile costco alum one lifts much higher so nicer for the bigger jobs when you want the car a bit higher when you are working underneath.

 

I just use a regular floor jack, but I have to use a length of 2x4 as a lever under the body to lift it high enough to get on the jack. Isn't hard, and cheaper than getting a new floor jack.

 

I've had good luck with Harbor freight stuff... just get an extended warranty on it and they replace it without question.

I also had the other HF one in here... it got stolen but worked well for a long time.
