FM hood louvers
Has anyone installed them, and where on a MSM-NB hood? Flyin' Miata : Body : Body parts : Flyin` Miata aluminum louver panel
Most text suggest the rear 25% of the hood but the pressure layout on FM's site seems to show the lowest pressure area to be closer to the headlight(s). Thanks Phil |

I bought 2 of these. They will be getting put on my NA during the winter/spring sometime. Mine will go more close to the center of the hood, and a little further towards the headlights. Probably around the bump in the middle of the hood. But i like the idea of having it above the turbo to let some of that heat escape once i stop driving the car, and i turn it off. I'm not really worried about "flow" through my radiator, as much as i am worried about getting the warm air out of the bay. Mainly getting that hot air out and away from where the turbo is.

I was thinking the same, but moving them more towards the out edge of the hood. One thing that may dictate the position is the hood bracing. The trick I feel is to remove the bracing, to promote better air flow, and to use the louver as a bridge between the cuts which may necessitate the addition of a few rivets!

You want a foil/lip and the vents reduce the size of the hole. Buy whatever you want, but this is the marlin. Those FM vents will probably work if you put them further forward.

I put my vents in sideways, that way I get mad flow with my extreme drift angles.

I placed 4 thermocouples under the hood and did before and after testing. I saw an average 52 degree drop in under hood ambient air temps, 11 degree drop in water temp and 23 degree drop in intake air temps. I didn't put it in a wind tunnel to test it though.
