On another note. I found a tag in the car for Hertz rental car and it had all the cars information on it. Turns out the car was a rental back in the day. I have always wanted to take a rental car to the track.

That was just what i did last night in taking it apart. Today i took even more apart and have lots of wire left over if i just splice into the stock ecu wires that were burned. I will update it with more pictures as it goes

so late 93 = 1.8 without the bumper emblem?
|
I know the front bumper hood and fenders are not the oem ones, so i don't know about the emblem.

Here is tonight's progress
Attachment 9358 Removed about 35 of the 40 wires that went to the back that control things like the door sensor and the brake lights. I left a little of the brake light wire to wire the lights needed inside the cab. Attachment 9360 Attachment 9357 And stripped out all the inside pretty much. Attachment 9356 I think i can move the ecu to where it is for the 90-93 under the dash area and have enough wire to work with the burnt wire to not have to splice as much. |
I wish i could grow the bollucks just to say screw it and make the miata into a pure track car. It would be so sexy inside, but so user unfriendly :crx: Nice progress BTW snaps for rharris19:greddy2:

Dude that kicks ass! I'm gonna come out and cheer for you guys at the Lemons event. Keep the photos coming. All of my internals should be here by next week so when the build is done I'm having another Turbo Miata day so you guys have to make it out. I ordered suspension for the RX-8, man that thing is a pig compared to the Miata!:)

Removed dash completely. Heater, a/c equipment, blower, all removed.
Attachment 9444 Here is the load of fun that i get to deal with over the next couple of weeks. Really looking forward to seeing what it i that i need just for the race and not stuff like turn signals. Attachment 9446 Next stop is to tackle this mess of wires and see what i do and don't need. Something tells me i will be removing the airbag control box. Attachment 9447 Looks so wierd without the little side windows there. Looks kinda cool though. Attachment 9448 |
Just jumping on this and wanted to see if youve made more progress

Sorry for the delayed response. Between christmas and a vacation i have had little time on here.
So a lot has happened. I found out one of our drivers sisters is getting married on the day of the race and three out of the four drivers are have to go to it. We grew up with her, so not really much we can do. Then i thought that i would be able to go to the one in June in New Orleans, but NOOOOOO. I have yet another wedding on that day for a family friend that i have already told i would come to. Now we have resorted to trying to get into the february race in houston and hoping that the car is ready in time. We sent in our application to lemons 6 days after the deadline, but the organizer said there is a good chance that we will be able to get in on it. Since we are in a crunch i ordered a wiring loom from Brian at Anything Mazda, since we are going to under budget anyway. There is no way i could have the time to rewire the car within a month without a wiring harness from someone parting a car. Here is what our running tally looks like price wise: Expenses Car: $250 from Craigslist Wiring, fuse box, used clutch master, used clutch slave, clutch pedal setup: $205 Shipped from Brian 82K Mile Manual Transmission, flywheel, pressure plate, and clutch: $100 from Craigslist Income Auto trans: $65 on Craigslist Total Spent: $555-65 = $490 I still have plenty to sell: Finish Panel Tailights Airbags Gauge cluster cover |
We have been accepted to the Lemons race for february! The wiring harness will be going in this weekend and we will go from there to see what else needs to be done.

I will just post it up here for everyone else's reference too. What they want to know is what sets you apart from the rest of the people. They like to hear a little about how you got your car, but are much more interested in hearing about your "team theme". Ours for example is top gun. So we described what would make our theme a top gun theme.
Here is our team concept copied from the web site: The theme that we wanted to do was top gun. The car itself will be modeled after a fighter jet. We will have small wings that extend 6'' front the sides in the back, large fin wings forming a V on the trunk, and the front will make more of a conical shape than stock. Our exhaust will be coming out of the back between where the taillights were with two large openings. In these openings we will have collapsible broccoli strainers that will function as the afterburners. The entire car will be rattle can painted to have a color scheme similar to that of a fighter jet. The interior will be decked out with so many non functioning gauges that it will look like the cockpit of a fighter jet. We are in the process of finding green fire suits so that we can use them in out theme as well. The fire suits will have patches ironed on to them similar to those like what would be found on a normal flight suit. |
