So I have a 97' M Edition, i like the chrome rings from the older models but when looking at the gauge faces i noticed i have a small gauge of some sort right above the fuel gauge. Ive been skimming through threads on gauges but cant find or have found but overlooked what the use of it. Anyone able to throw a quick answer my way and let me know if it'll effect my car if its not plugged in by switching to an older model gauge? I have looked behind the gauges to see a couple wires plugged into it and the front facing(plastic with lense) is apparently also connected so i cannot just direct swap the fronts without i guess disabling that. Any info would be appreciated

 

It's the hardtop defrost icon. Can be removed.

 

Mazda did away with the chrome rings because in a convertible they are blinding/annoying with the sun at your back.
