Got My ACT and Clutch parts

Went ahead and picked up my ACT extreme pressure plate and street disc today from a local dealer and ordered $141.43 in parts from rosenthal:

-ACT Clutch kit XT PP/ST disc
-Spark Plugs :)
-Rear main seal
-Front tranny seal
-Rear Tranny seal
-Upper shift boot
-Lower shift boot
-CAS O-ring
Something else I can't remember lol

EDIT: Went back and ordered shifter bushings and accessory belts before they shipped it out this mornign

Bring the total to like 170-ish
I'm really wondering if I should pick up a lightwieght flywheel...I've seen a few fidanzas running around for 300 bucks new....is it worth it?

Braineack 01-02-2007 09:04 PM

how much was the PP?

miatamania 01-02-2007 09:48 PM

the kit was $340...not sure how much just the PP is.

Check out CarolinaClutch.com and give them a call. Pretty good internet prices and its only a couple of guys, I live in the town next to them so I just picked mine up, but that do free shipping :).

MM, before you spend the cash on a flywheel, you've gotta drive car with one first. Find someone local and go for a drive in the city... lots of stop and go with traffic lights and such. I've driven two, and IMHO the small gain in performance really isn't worth the hassle of learning to drive the thing all over again.

Braineack 01-02-2007 11:10 PM

you can buy mine....once i find a new PP to throw on at the same time. JUN chromoly....

flywheel - IMO that's good dough to put towards your turbo package "upgrades"... like MS? I had one on a race car and it was awesome running at redline all the time. I could have used it on my street car at the time when I removed it, but sold it to spend the cash elsewhere.

Scott, you need to listen to this guy!!! I heard from a bird that MS is the word. ;)

Braineack 01-03-2007 08:48 AM

yeah i know....keep reminding me....I need to first: upgrade my PP so I can hold more boost (removing the flywheel at the same time), replace the rear (yes 200rwhp on the 1.6 still), and then upgrade to MS. Might throw an exhaust in the mix prior to MS.

What is the wieght? and how much do you want for it? :)

Also, how are you going to to megasquirt? buy it from kingof1337 or build it? b/c if you build it I know theres going to be pages of the how to ;). I wanted to go ahead and do megasquirt just because I know I'll want to upgrade later and I can't throw cash around now...

Thing is, I drove a friend of mine who has one is his 92...had a MAX-5 clutch and I think a prolite for a 1.8 installed. I could tell a difference in acceleration through 1 and 2, but the on/off feeling was strange because of the clutch, and it didn't seem to bad to me, in bumper to bumper (where I rarely am for long) it might be a PITA.
I figure since my plans on going boost have been set back again it might be fun now since I have to do the clutch anyway...its just a lot of money to buy new.

Really? all the cars I've owned that I've put new, lighter flywheels in were not that much different to drive. There was more learning curve from new clutches or turbos or whatnot...

Atlanta93LE 01-03-2007 10:11 AM

I bought my car with a MAX-5 clutch and Fidanza installed 5k before my purchase. While I have little to compare to, I love it!

I bought it for over $350...put about 8k on it....probably looking at around $150. I believe it to be 10lbs.

I've probably buy a pre-built MS.

Same here. Other than a slighly more responsive throttle and additional drive train noise I noticed very little difference. If I take the car apart again out it comes to sell. In FI applications I really don't think it's worth it.

After asking, I checked it out: it wieghs 4.6 kilos...so ~10.2 lbs...I want it. :)
Whenever you get ready to sell it I call dibs, as long as its not to terribly long as my new clutch NEEDS to go in soon and its my DD so I can't have it torn apart forever.

Braineack 01-03-2007 11:06 AM

find me a PP. Freaking Xtreme plates sell as much as the damn kit! :vash:

jayc72 01-03-2007 11:09 AM

You should sell the whole thing (disc/PP/FW) as a kit and buy a new clutch kit.

Braineack 01-03-2007 11:15 AM

ill get the same damn clutch disc and throw-out bearing in return. such a pain.

getsidewaysd1 01-03-2007 12:29 PM

If the time comes and miatamania doesnts want it, let me know braineack and I'll take it. By the way, do you still have thoes brake pads?

Braineack 01-03-2007 12:37 PM

yeah i do...pics in the thread.
