HID conversion
Just purchased an HID conversion for my 91 and i got em hooked up and going and damn they looked nice, but then i noticed that i dont have any high beams. so i rewired them and now i dont have any low beams. lol. so are the H4 bulbs only a one beam bulb? because i was only givin two wires--- one for the ground and one for a positive. So how do yall have them MK1's wired up???

you may have just bought the kit that only wires up one? My friend only had low beams but when he put high beams look like cops lights very funny when he flashed them people were stupid enough to pull over. I know the new kits now have high and low, you may have wired them wrong go over the instructions again.

well the factory harness has 3 prongs- high low and ground. the kit only has 2 prongs-ground and low/high(whichever u want to wire) but the bulb does not get brighter so im completely lost.

btw, it's a very bad idea to use a separate HID bulb for the highbeams because flashing them on and off will shorten their lives drastically as HID bulbs are designed to "heat up". likewise its a bad idea to have your HID low beam bulbs turn off when you flash your high beams.
that is why early gen HID cars used standard bulbs for the high beams and the low beams stayed on during.
later gen HID cars have a mirror or prism that redirects the light from one filament to shine as low or high which eliminates the on/off switching that destroys the bulbs.

the Moss low pros take H9 bulbs, hence the single filament.

Well crap, I guess I'm all confused. Too many sizes to keep up with, especially after going through 3 different headlight kits (BSP, AAC, and now Moss).
Anyway, yes, I wired in a relay to keep the HIDs on in the same way that the BSP LoPro kit kept all it's lights on when the brights were activated.

Did you order one of the 100 dollar kits on ebay or a miata specific conversion kit?
I was once thinking of putting HID's in. Two plans.
Plan A:
Get Hella E-Code H4 compatible reflector housings from rallylights.com and buy one of the HID kits for 100 bucks off ebay. They only have on filament, so low beam only. I assume they should look great because of E-code cutoff.
Plan B: Saw this done on a 57 Belair.
Get a plastic reflector housing thats the same shape as my lamp and retrofit a BMW projector into it.
The 57 Belair that I saw, had the same round lights like our miatas. They cut the back 1/4 of the reflector off and attached the projector to it and poked it through hole half way into the reflector. Looked awesome.

Thats really whats keeping me from going ahead with plan A. The size of the reflector housing, clarity of the glass, halogen bulb, and simplicity of it all would probably perform better then a half assed HID conversion. I am just waiting for one of my bulbs to burn out so I can upgrade. I just cant decide what wattage I want. Which do you have?

if they are available get the H4 HID bulbs in D2R flavor. those are designed for a reflector housing. the D2S bulbs are designed for projector housings and if you throw them in a reflector you are gonna get a lot of stray light scattered. you ever see those ricers with really annoyingly bright HIDs that blind you? thats because they use D2S bulbs when they shoulda used D2R bulbs.

paul- those are damn nice but i dont have the moss headlamps. i have the 7" projector headlights and i bought the H4 6000K from xenoneyes.com and mine do have a reflector housing on the top half of the bulb. so it is starting to sound like i have only a low beam.
