High oil pressure
I just switched my oil to Royal Purple 10w-30 with a Mobil 1 filter. With the engine up to temp at idle the oil pressure is 25-30psi. Under boost it creeps up to about halfway between the 60-90psi marks.
Is this high of sustained pressure going to hurt anything? I tried searching around but I couldn't find much on high oil pressure, mostly low.

nah, thats fine. i ran 5w40 for a while and i saw it peg out the oil pressure on cold starts.
the rule of thumb with oil pressure is "a lot when cold, less when hot" and "enough at idle, and more at WOT"
heh, that kinda rhymed.

The stock OP gauge is known to be rather optimistic. Probably 20% high if you're looking for hard values.
Super's right. Watch for trends and only be alarmed if there is a sudden, large difference between expected trend values and actual values.

Ok good to hear. It is acting exactly the same just at a higher pressure. Usually right after an oil change the pressure is 5psi or so higher than the old oil, but with the Royal Purple it's near 10-15 so I was freaking out. Thanks.
(Also, Royal Purple is actually purple oil...I was not expecting that.)

i'm having the exact opposite problem... so what does it mean when your oil pressure is too love... like lets say 20 at idle...and only 30 when i'm on it after it warms up on a hot day... is that normal? i'm running 10w-30 mobil 1
first, double check your connection to your oil pressure sending unit. I had some corrosion on the connector and it caused it to read real low for a while. One day, it dropped to zero (and this was shortly after an oil change) and i nearly crapped my pants.

I bet its a crappy filter. I had a filter come apart on my car once, and I lost like 20psi.
everyday he's hustling... you are most likey RIGHT! i think the oil filters you buy at the mazda dealership are like a 10 pound difference vs. an aftermarket filter such as fram...heheh i'm running a fram and before i was running a dealership filter... is this bad?
Everyone seems to love the OEM filters, so if you have low pressure I would run that. I tried to get some OEM filters but my local Mazda dealer isn't interested in helping me. I run Mobil 1 filters because it's either Fram or Mobil 1...easy choice.
ahhh don't tease me... maybe then i'll be able to build spool quicker and beat some of those muscle cars that try to run me down to in between first and second...like seriously...to high of rpms for 1st and to low of rpns for second...what do you do, what do you do.
