Default How do i tell if its a 1.6L or a 1.8L?

Im looking to buy a miata and i dont know how to tell the difference between the engines. I really want the 1.6L because i have a rebuilt motor with a garrett turbo off a mercury capri XR2 (same motor as the 323 GTX) that i want to swap in.

How many years does it take to hit 90 mph?

If years > 1; then motor = 1.6
If years < 1; then motor = 1.8

You really want the 1.6L because you are an idiot. Keep reading before you buy one.

I'm betting that if it has the capri turbo it has the capri manifold which means it has the same size engine as the capri, aka the 1.6. All of that adds up to you looking at someone selling a GRM challenge car that ran the challenge for 3 years.

Open the hood and look directly from the front.

CAS to the right=1.8

CAS to the left=1.6

The hood is the thingy that covers the engine.

put your nose to the exhaust with the car on and take a good smell. If it smells like peaches and cream its 1.8, if strawberries and banana its 1.6. It takes a while til you start to smell it, so keep doing it for at least a few hours.

I usually just **** the exhaust.

If it feels like old man loose butthole, it's 1.6.

If it feels like first week freshman girl taco, it's 1.8.

Turbo 1.6 still feels like old man loose butthole. Just with some spicy corn salsa.
