How do you spot fake Takata harness?

Can anybody help enlighten me, please, about to dump $440 for 2 used sets.
Thanks

with that money you can get some Willans which are used on many things more likely to kill you

whitena 09-26-2009 11:14 PM

Yeah, true but I like green on black.

NA6C-Guy 09-26-2009 11:19 PM

Color over safety any day!

The fake ones will say "fake" on the back.

whitena 09-26-2009 11:45 PM

Me too, prefer safty over color anyday but isn't Takata one of the best harness brand out there? I mean if I can get 2 sets for 1/2 the price of new ones then, why not!

Savington 09-26-2009 11:50 PM

Why not? Because they're fake.

Are Takatas FIA approved? Look for the homologation tags.

because you can get something cheaper that works just as well. And if you race FIA homologated parts are set to expire. Also the seat belts in my 240sx were made by Takata, whats the big deal?

NA6C-Guy 09-27-2009 12:08 AM

If you're just going to have a break down if you don't get green, get black Willans and green pads.

whitena 09-27-2009 12:14 AM

Real ones are FIA approved but it's not my main concern because I'm not looking forward to compete in any event. It's just in case that if I need to have it for track fun and like I said green would look nice with the seats I have.

Savington 09-27-2009 12:25 AM

Good to know that you value looks over safety. Be sure to tell any instructor who offers to ride with you that your harnesses are eBay fakes with no certifications at all - I'm sure they'll be chomping at the bit to ride in your car.

They're goddamn seatbelts, dude. You don't buy cheap, fake seatbelts. Get a set of used SFI-rated G-Force camlocks and shelve the JDM "BUT I LIKE GREEN" crap.

whitena 09-27-2009 12:26 AM

Can anybody help with the info I need?

Savington 09-27-2009 12:30 AM

Whoops. Sorry, man. I mis-read what you wrote as you not caring about the FIA ratings, only about the harness color.

You should be able to spot fakes by their price and lack of homologation tags. Let me snap photos of my Willans and Schroth tags.

Rennkafer 09-27-2009 12:32 AM

You have the info you need... you're just not listening. There's NO definitive way to tell if they're fakes or not. Anyone going to the trouble to make fake belts could just as easily make fake FIA/SFI tags too.

Bottom Line...

FUCK THE COLOR BUY GOOD BELTS FROM A KNOWN DEALER IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE. It's really that simple.

P.S. anyone who pays $440 for USED belts need to send me money because they have wayyyyy too much.

True, but the locations and such would probably be different (or at least how they attach). The Chinese are good, but not that good. ;)

whitena 09-27-2009 12:41 AM

Damn, don't mean to to tick anyone off with the JDM "I like GEEEN" stuff, just looking for the info I need, that's all Sav.

mazda/nissan 09-27-2009 12:44 AM

To tell you the truth, we don't care much. Because if you are hell bent on form>function then we may not have to read your posts much longer. Not trying to be mean, just putting things in perspective...
