Default how much coolant for winter?

I put 1/2 a jug of coolant in a few weeks ago. Is that enough to stop freezing above say 25*? Should I add more considering I have a huge radiator?

You could get a $2 coolant tester from a parts store and test the mix. I would add more just to make sure it doesn't freeze during some cold snap in January.

Put in a full jug. Top it off with water.

If you are too cheap to pony up a couple of bucks for a tester, I'm sure the brain trust at Vato Zone can hook you up with a coolant test. That said, 50% should be good to -30. You have 10-15% so should be good to around 20.

Who the **** needs a tester!? I mean really, put enough in there so that it looks reasonably colored and let it ride. At least that is acceptable in the relatively mild southeast. I would say my coolant system is the most ignored system, especially now that it doesn't leak down. I check it about once every 2 or 3 months and thats it.

Did you forget you were in TX?

We hardly break into the 20s. A drop should do it.

I have run 70% water/30%coolant in all of my Miatas and we occasionally see single digit temps here, no issues so far.

Since I'm from the great white north, this is what I run in my vehicles,40% coolant 60% water, never had a problem with that mixture and it gets COLD up here.
