Default How much would you pay for a '99 head

I have an opportunity to buy a '99 head and was wondering what people thought it would be worth.

It came off of an 80k mile engine, NO intake manifolds, and valve cover is cracked around the cam gear area (VC might be usable).

The fact that it doesn't have the IMs is annoying but if the price is right I can deal with it, so how much would you pay for the above described head?

You can expect to pay ~$400....make sure that it includes the cams.

A couple of things you should check before laying down the bucks:

Remove the cams and check the cam journals...make sure the front ones don't have excessive wear.

Get a straight edge and make sure the head is nice and flat.

While you are at it, take some parts cleaner/kerosene and drop some in each intake port and exhaust port and see if any of it bleeds in to the combustion chamber (to check how the valves are sealing).

Anyone else have an opinion on a fair price for this head?

Thanks for the input Tony.

The $400 range is where I've always seen them.

Check front-to-rear (both sides), side-to-side (front and rear) and then diagonally corner-to-corner...

Dunno what to pay for that head but I bought a 99 head that came off a new (crate)engine for $800.oo. It also came with a bottom end that had spun bearing and front nose crank problem.
Prior owner had port work done on his original 99 head so sold the new one to me.

Just a reference point.

I paid $550 for my 00' head with 30k mi and came with the mani. so $350 or so for one with 80k and no manifold. just remember you'll have to do some fabbing if u plan to fit a 94-97 mani onto a 99-00. keith tanner's project book has a good write-up on it.
