So what you're saying is I should heat up the vaf and take off the glue and pop it open and tighten up the spring on the inside?

On the thermostat my car keeps overheating and I'm wondering if its because I have a 12" slim fan or something else but it overheats when its 70-80 and I'm stopped at idle for a long time. Could that be the issue?

no.

If you just want to pass and fool the system instead of figuring out what's causing it try increasing your idle. then when you pass just put it back. you can do this by adjusting the screw near your throttle body. Put it back when you're done and walla.

if you're passing during the driving portion think about it... you're just increasing your engines operating speed to be similar to when you're driving and passing. I turned mine up to be fast enough where i thought it wasn't overly obvious to the inspector. default idle is somewhere around 900rpm.

just keep in mind something probably isn't running correctly in turn causing you to not burn normal. could be bad.. could be not harmful to your car but I've never had to mess with a healthy motor/tune.

Thanks I'll try that. I would like to know what is the root issue but I have tried almost all I can and now I just want to pass.

PS. I haven't passed the driving part all there is in Oregon is the idle portion.

OK I leaned out the vaf and got my hc down to 300 which is still a fail went to buy some 99% rubbing alcohol and it ended up falling to 72 hc. So I think the problem was that my ECU is from a 1.6 motor so it thinks that I have smaller injectors so leaning out the vaf kind of fixed the issue. Thanks to everyone for yourinput.

You know, you could have laid it out all in your first post, using complete sentences and punctuation.

Then, we could have had a chance to see the full picture, and help you properly, instead of running in the dark, playing moot guessing games.

You just gotta help those you ask help from. Does not cost you anything.
