I got fed up with my battery since it left me stranded twice in the past week in cold weather. Another car battery has also left me stranded as well in this past winter. What did I get for a replacement? This:




It's an everstart battery made by delphi that I managed to pick up at wal-mart for $60 with a coupon discount. It came with a 3-year warranty. As it sits, it can pump out about 680 amps in 30 seconds at ~0*F. Multiplied by 1.28 and it can pump about 870 motherfucking cranking amps at freezing, or as I like to think, 6,001,029,419,032,402 electrons kicking old man winter's butt every second. It can also pump 25amps with 10.5v at the post for 110 minutes... hopefully. This is my retaliation against winter. I will win. I always win.

The only problem is, well, the fact that it is a flooded battery, it's twice the size, twice the weight, doesn't fit, will corrode, leak, and eventually will blow up.

This is only going to be my winter battery, but I still need to address the hydrogen seepage. I would be interested in finding out how much actually comes out, but I have no way of testing this. I'm thinking of taping a plastic bag on the top of the battery with holes for the cables and one for the OEM tube vent. Good idea, no? I have also placed a towel underneath to catch any battery acid and to minimize/dampen movement. With the bungee cord, it has surprisingly little movement.

So yah.... looking forward to moving to a latitude with fewer degrees

To determine if that's really an issue, remove your radio antenna and install a barbecue grill igniter in its place. Keep the trunk closed and after a few days of driving around, click the igniter a few times. That should tell you if you are getting significant hydrogen buildup.

 

Listen son, If I had the opportunity and/or money to invest in a goddamn pan to go under the battery filled with sand, cement powder, or soda ash, I would, but it turns out I invested that in your soon-to-be ex yesterday. You could have stopped me, but you were busy with your own acid.

You'd better get a better mount ASAP before it slides over and dents out your quarter panel from the inside.

 

With all the threads on how to mount a bigger battery between here and M.net and that's the best mount you could come up with, a bungee cord? God have mercy on your children.

I beat winter too. About a month ago, I put in an optima yellow top. Car sat for two weeks through a blizzard and 20 degree weather and started on the first crank.

oh and did I mention it fits in the stock location like a glove? and doesn't vent poisonous/combustible gases?

we wont discuss the price tag though. but it does have 3 yr free replacement.

 

Yeahh, the price tag sort of got me. I needed something with a lot of cold cranking amps for cheap, because we get to -15*F, and I guess the amps go down by like half at those temperatures. My westco couldn't handle it. With this, it's like god is reaching down from heaven and turning the flywheel himself.
