I hit no mans land going to third back when I had my old FM II '90 at the dragstrip. This had been mentioned a few times back on the old Miatapower list. The consensus was flex from the torque of a high power motor but nobody knew why the lever would be in 3rd gear, but the car felt like it was in neutral. Some guy made a gate that assured a clean shift to 3rd that went over the lever. Seemed to work for him. I sold my car before I attempted to fix the problem. It seemed pretty random.

Something definitely happend internally a while back. I can't describe it but something is broken/breaking in there. Plans are to get a used tranny and then I'll take this one apart and see if I can find the problem.

It could still be a damaged shift fork in the tranny, it would be a first time I've heard of it in a miata, but it's common in the honda world (buddy fragged them in his integra monthly). You HAVE to tear this one down so you can tell us what happened.

That's what I would've thought, too.

I dont understand why its hard for you guys to find the 2-3 shift under load. I hit that shit every time under full boost. I havent missed that shift in years ( no joke ). I have MS mounts, not sure how much of a difference that makes.

Mazda got it right with the miata gearbox as far as feel goes. It is very smooth. If it was a little tougher it would be perfect.
