Default I've had a really crappy summer this year... (NSFW maybe?)

Hey all. So this summer has pretty much been a huge failure. It started out ok, took the car out of winter storage and began prepping it for an early event in April. But the stock turbo on my msm had different ideas and decided to begin barfing oil into my intercooler piping. Seals went out on the turbo. It had a good life, lasted to 104k miles at around 12psi for 60k of those. I decided to send it off to BNR for their 16g upgrade. After waiting a grueling 2 months, missing another 2 track days, i received back my new turbo and everything was great! I bolted it on and hodge-podged together some temporary intercooler piping to get the car drivable and began to enjoy the car again. This was about 2 weeks ago. I just made an appointment for the week to go to a local shop for some dyno time and get some new intake and intercooler piping welded up for the new turbo.

I'm OK!

But life has other plans and this happened on my way home from a friends house Thursday night.

Basically, I was in the far left lane on a 4 lane highway heading home. Doing about 70mph. The lane next to me I'm coming up on a big duelly truck with a car trailer, he's doing maybe 60mph. So I'm passing. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a deer leeping across the front of the truck and basically flinched and swerved to the left. The deer pretty much landed inbetween the truck and my car headbutting the entire side of my car and smashing into the A-pillar and rolling down the side of the car. Nothing I could really do. Scared the living crap out of me and threw shattered glass around the cabin. I'm ok, the car seemed stable so I slow and pulled to the side. The truck just ******* kept on driving. (asshat)

Anyways, I pretty much killed the buck on impact. I went to look at it, looked like maybe a 4-5 pointer. One of it's antlers went flying somewhere.

I'm so thankful the way it went down, honestly I think if I would have hit that 140-150lb buck head on, I don't know if I'd be here typing this. Plus I'm glad my GF wasn't in my passenger seat like she normally would be, otherwise she pretty much would have been showered with glass and deer blood.

I'm waiting on my insurance inspector the come out either Monday or Tuesday. It's really up int he air if he may total it or not. That rear quarter has me concerned as well as the deer's impact on the A-pillar. All the plastics came off the opposite side of the A-pillar. I dont know if it's structurally compromised or not. The hood is straight aside from deer drool and a scrape. The door sills look ok too. I've got full coverage and the car is paid off so.

But if it get's totalled I'm pretty sure I'm buying the car back and either parting it out or finding a nice clean NA to swap. So keep and eye out for me on your local craigslists.

I am the foreman of my department at work. Saturday I get there and one of my employees at the start of the shift comes up to me and says "did you hear anything from Dan?" I say "no what's up?" "He hit a deer last night on his gsx-r."
Dudes ok...deer and bike is garbage.
Guess what I'm trying to say is, if you are able to post a thread about it. You got lucky. Bang down a shot, go to a casino, relax.
F that car. Sure it was YOUR car, but that's just it. It's a piece of metal. The next one will be better, trust me.
Congratulations on your life.

Thanks! I couldn't sleep all the night. I keep replaying the scenario in my head, it's always been one of my worst fears with these little cars.

I'm really hoping the guy totals it and I can just strip it and build a new toy with leftovers. If he doesn't total it, I'm probably going to part it out regardless. I'm done with this car.

A few years ago, the missus hit a buck in her 3. Nearly identical damage. Insurance paid out, didn't total it.

It's been a fear of mine as well for years. Keep thinking back to the page in the Ohio Driver's License Handbook, where it tells you about how if you hit a deer and kill it, you are entitled to take the carcass. Always assumed that if I hit a deer in a Miata with sufficient force to kill it, the first thing through my mind wouldn't be "mmmmm, dinner!" It would be antlers.

Glad to hear you're ok, this is a real fear driving these cars. Suffice to say there was nothing you could have done but you'll keep replaying it regardless. Make sure you wash that seat cover before the partout
