Let's talk about intercooler piping.
I'm putting the finishing touches on the stash of parts in my garage, and this is on the list. If you're intercooled, could you tell me everything you know about your setup? What kind of couplers you used, what bends and how many of them, and what you did for a bypass valve fitting. The setup will be a T25 on a 1.8, with a 27x6x2.5 front mount, if it matters.
Also, what should I be looking for as far as kits go? I've heard some talk about a vendor on eBay that allows you to choose your bends and straights, but I've also heard he's hard to find. How did everyone else do it? |

They to have good prices. If you join homemadeturbo.com you get a 5% discount and if you call in your order you can request cheaper USPS shipping versus UPS. |

I bought a universal 2.5" pipe kit on ebay and ended up only using the two 75 degree pipes, some leftover pipes from my dad's subie, and a bunch of 90 degree silicone elbows from treadstone performance. I made my own bov pipe out of exhaust adapters.
2 of the 75 degree pipes... Attachment 216601 I only used the black 90 degree pipe here because it had a tighter radius bend. Attachment 216602 Attachment 216603 Attachment 216604 Attachment 216605 |
License plate heatshields rock.

Best heatshield EVER! :bigtu:
As for piping and whatnot, take a look at the link for stripes IC setup at the upper right (mx5projects.com). That should give you at least somewhat of a roadmap. |

I'd like to see more shots from underneath, specifically of pipes that go under the radiator. Thanks.

I can see why under the radiator might not be a good idea, low hanging pipes- a tall speed bump or anything of that nature and the pipes could be toast, especially if the car is lowered. But it looks like you have to be very careful going around the radiator due to the tires. Maybe I'm wrong and there is more space there than I think. Thanks for the pics though. Tells me what I wanted to know. |

Curiousity. I am new. I just got my Miata last Friday, I've been lurking here for about two weeks and then other than that my knowledge is limited to the time I've spent looking under the hood and in the wheel wells.

Now that is nice.

Now I wonder if there would be clearance issues with around the rad with bigger wheels/tires a la 6ULs w/225-245. If only he still had some in stock so I could find out....

Check this thread out as well. That guy has a pretty nice setup with good pictures. |

I've got no AC or PS, but I'll link to all my previous posts.
First, the IC and the way I mounted it. A small piece of aluminum stock and a couple threaded rods.... then fabbed up a air deflector from stainless sheet stock to hold the bottom in place. It is EXACTLY as wide as the radiator, perfect for a 90* coupler to go around. Drilled a couple holes in the radiator brace for the threaded rods to go through and then double nutted it to hold. https://www.miataturbo.net/forums/sh...&postcount=185 Second, hot side: One piece of 45* bend, a 90* coupler, and a 45* coupler. https://www.miataturbo.net/forums/sh...&postcount=205 https://www.miataturbo.net/forums/sh...&postcount=208 https://www.miataturbo.net/forums/sh...&postcount=210 Cold side is a single 45* pipe bend cut into 3 pieces, a 90* coupler, T-coupler, and 90* 2-2.5" enlarging coupler. I'm recirculating my BOV now as well. |
Sam...as always, your my hero.
