There is a miata for sale locally for $500. Its red 90, rust and a ripped top. I really wasnt going to pick it up for a DD but more as a project car, probally either drop a 5.0 or Sr20det in there.

What should I offer for it?

I'd just go give the guy $500 because it will be gone if you wait (at least around here it would). I had one for $450 the other day and turned it down. It sold later that week for $1350 on ebay.

 

I guess it's bone stock, yah? If it runs good, then $500 isn't bad for a DD as long as it's got a good (no-short-nose-issues) engine and good tires.

If you're looking to mod it w/an SR20det, then wait until a 94+ with Torsen and good paint comes along. A Torsen and cheap Maaco job is at least $1500... makes sense to buy a car for $2k already with a torsen and good paint.

do what sam is talking about,the 500 dollar rusty miata will need alot more work thats not really worth it in the long run.

BTW, the car I was talking about had a bad crank! $1350 on ebay for a car that needed a new engine (sort of).

If I were in NJ I would buy that in 2 seconds and then kick myself for having 4 miatas and nowhere to park them. But that's just me. You could part that out and make an easy triple back.
