Default looking for some parts advice

I'm looking to buy some stuff to prep my car for the track. I need a steering wheel (preferably d-shaped, I'm 6'1"), harnesses and a seat.

I'm planning on running my car in NASA HPDE's and hopefully time trial. So I need stuff that is legal for use in NASA and not too expensive.

Wondering if you guys have any suggestions on what to buy and where from.

Thanks

well if you are tracking a car (miata) most tracks require roll bars on verts so get that. Need to find one that will let your helmet be at a legal distances from the bar. Get a harness tabs on your bar.

Sparco makes nice belts. I have a 5 point but only use 2 points for AutoX since I do not have a roll bar. Might also look into getting arm restraints.

SA rated helmet if you dont have one

not sure what else NASA would want

www.racerwholesale.com has some decent prices.

www.helmetcity.com has good prices on helmets

I already have a roll bar but it doesn't have harness tabs. Can I add those after the fact?

You don't necessarily need harness tabs - most, if not all, belts can be wrapped around the horizontal part of the roll bar (the part that passes across the car at shoulder height) if so equipped. I recently installed a fresh set of Safe-Quip belts which came with tabs despite my request that they not be equipped. A few cuts with the razor blade to remove the tabs and I was able to install them by wrapping.

A key consideration with the installation of ANY harness set is to follow the manufacturer's instructions exactly. Most organizations (EMRA included) will spec that the shoulder harnesses by mounted in a plane that is plus or minus ten degrees from your shoulder line. This is to prevent spinal compression injuries and is critical. Another issue is the routing of sub staps. I see these run wrong more times than not. Again, follow your manufacturer's directions explicitly.

Regarding the D-cut wheel, I purchased a Sparco from LTB motorsport ( http://www.ltbmotorsports.com/ ). The owner is a racer and provides great customer service and good pricing as well. Not affiliated, your mileage may vary, etc.
