Looking at Steering Wheels... $50 eBay?

1 Attachment(s)
I saw Brains latest AutoX vids and heard mention of cheap eBay steering wheels. I had no idea there were wheels that cheap and there were that many options. I've been looking at several eBay ones and think I like this one... plain round.

I don't think my long arms would like the wheel any closer to my body than the stock one, so "deep dish" is out.

Anybody hear of failures? I think just one publicized failure anywhere on the internet would kill all future sales of every single knock-off China-wheel.

Does anybody have another line on aftermarket steering wheels in the $50 shipped range? Website other than eBay?

Apparently they like to wear really fast but I don't have any personal experience. Never heard of a catastrophic failure though. :dunno:

There has been a couple on eBay Ive seen that I kinda liked but I cant afford to get a quality hub for it so I havnt tried it yet. Wheel is like 30 bucks, hub is like 130...

I had one. It fell apart very quickly, and then the top portion came off after about 4 months, making it more like a c-cut wheel.

Keep looking for a used name brand?

I looked for a bit, and picked up a used Personal 330mm wheel for $75 and change shipped, off of eBay.

I don't know the no-names are bad or not, but I figure real Italian leather has to wear better, and was $20ish more.

I've seen them up close too. The stitching sucked, and the metal was real weak. Like, flexible.
You know who makes a pretty darn good steering wheel for cheap? Grant. Avoid their "bling" wheels, but you will find they are well constructed.

Get an NRG adapter, they're cheap and work great. I've seen alot of them lately and really like them.

I'm mostly interested in the hubs. Searching on m.net gives us 2 grant part numbers but not much info on what is different between the two. I guess I could have my brother order both in so I can check them out.

Super cheap ebay would be a nice option if it exists.

Sam, I have that same steering wheel. I've had it for about 6 months now and considering how much it coast I cant complain. It does what it needs to do.

I'm using one of the 20buck hubs off ebay... works fine for me honestly. Never hooked up horn though.

For wheels though... don't do ebay. Get a minimum of a basic Grant wheel.... or goto a sparco/momo/nardi

I have the momo competition with momo hub and ltbmotorsports.com quick release. as you can imagine, I also have no complaints of quality

I had a cheap ebay wheel for about 2 days before I took it off. It felt really flimsy, like if you gently pushed back and forth on the wheel it would totally flex. You could just feel how cheap it was, it wasn't solid at all.

After that I bought a Grant wheel that was cheap and really nice quality. Grant isn't a JDM name brand or anything like that but they are pretty well known in the domestic world.

If you aren't looking for a name brand wheel, but one that is good quality and is inexpensive, I'd recommend checking out Grant wheels.

I have one on the car now. I've switched between that one and a couple Nardi wheels I have, and while the build quality is a bit stinky ( the leather is meh ) It feels nice in my hands and I like that it's of a smaller diameter than stock.

I figured the thing I interact with most in the car (aside from the seat) was worth spending money on.

this is what i have. I really want to change to a different hub eventually...it's honestly a piece of crap, I've stripped a thread before....i have a feeling it's zinc or something....the wheel is amazing, I hate any other wheel that's not smaller in diameter and dished.

Brad has momo "race" wheel, what that ebay wheel you posted is copied from. I prefer a standard round wheel without ergonomics in the design.

miatamania 08-25-2008 09:13 AM

I've got a momo monte carlo w/ a momo hub...both used...so I have like $50 bucks in the deal. I bought the hub and traded my FM cat (that I had $40 bucks in ) for the wheel...

How far is it from the control stalks? Is it equal to the stock wheel's dish? Pic would be appreciated cause i'm thinking about getting the same wheel.

i have no problems reaching them. the wheel sits a lot closer, it doesn't rub my legs and i can sit and bend my elbows like a real f1 driver.
